What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

Well I finally did a couple of small jobs on my truck today. Amazing how some cooler weather will motivate you to get your ass busy. I did the rear breather mod, only 1 pic. I located it in the drivers side rear tail light area. Just tie wrapped it to the other wiring loom already there. Then I tore the plastic bed liner out. What a pain in the ass. Pics of how much dirt and crap there was after 17 years. Then I had my neighbor take all four of my tie downs out so I can hit them with some Rust Stop and paint them black. Thinking about painting me bed with Herculiner or something similar. What bed liner is everyone using. I would like something almost like rubber so things wouldn't slide all over the place, and don't want the rough bed liners scratching shit up I throw back there. The pics don't show it very well, but the plastic liner has created a line on the outside of the top of the bed from front to rear. It's also rubber two places down to bare metal which sucks.

Wow whats the prissy I mean Prius made of plastic. I know they get Super Gas milage and all, is yours the half electric half motor car. They just never interested me. I'll drive Gas powered cars until the day I die or can't drive anymore. No tiny Electric cars for me.

 

How about posting some more pics of that soft topper shell. do one from the back with the tail gate down, and show the frame that holds it all together if you can. If you wouldn't mind, what was the cost of it, Looks pretty cool to me. Way lighter than trying to remove a conventional camper shell.

 

My friends Tesla battery went bad, warranty was only 50k if I remember.
New batteries were around 14k or something ridiculous, that’s something to look forward too

 

Sure, I'll take some when it's light tomorrow. I'll look up the cost too. Can't remember exactly at the moment. But I did pay extra and got the extra rear mesh door the cover/boot for when it's folded down as well as the tent attachment. Yeah it's nice and very light. And just fold it down if you gotta haul something taller.

 

Dam I could buy a cherry 1st gen for that much money, and he's only getting batteries. I did see a video of a Telsa sports care that would really haul ass. very impressive.

Doesn’t say much for Longevity
That’s two years of driving for me. Would never work for me.

 

Before tax and shipping it was $759 for the topper itself, $89 for the mesh (additional) rear door, $59 for the boot/cover and $200 for the tent attachment.

 

Don't feel bad, when I did all 4 tie rod ends, I counted threads, marked it with a sharpie, compared old vs new, and the dam thing drove like a buckboard wagon down to NTB for a front end alignment. Was really freaking me out al little. Dam thing was all over the road. Thank god I didn't have to go far, I was worried about damaging my tires.

 

@Bolt Head , did you replace those head light housing or clean them up. they look brand new if you cleaned them.

 

Dam, too rich for my blood, I'll just have to rig a tarp with some tent poles

I crashed my Prius 4 years ago and it was totaled. And they are made of very thin sheet metal and really are not designed to survive any type of accident.

 

They're OEM. I think it was $179 each. Online purchase from local Toyota dealership.

 

Toyota is dam proud of their parts. I can get some nice after market from parts geek for about a third of that price, which is the route I"m going to take if my 3M headlight restoration kit doesn't work out. That's another small project I need to get done, so glad that fall is right around the corner. Hopefully 1 more hot month, and the heat will be gone for good until about June 1st of next year.

 

If you thin Raptor with 3 oz of reducer per bottle, it gives a relatively smooth finish, or more precisely, not scratchy.
