ok so the locksmith got back to me and said the following.

I've had several people stop in and attempt this but I've yet to have it work. The FCC numbers of the stand alone remotes and the remote head keys is never the same and therefore not interchangeable unfortunately. There may be an aftermarket option that's available. If you track one down its $65 for us to cut the key, program the transponder and program the remote functions. Just keep in mind...our equipment is usage based so we encure a charge for every car we attempt to program so if they send you a dud or the wrong key we won't know until the very end of the procedure when were through the programming process. Basically we have to charge you whether it works or not. I do my best to weed out the bad ones before we attempt programming though

so that being said. will this OEM factory key be the one to buy and bring to them to have this done?? and will it work??

    my fcc id is

or will the full oem toyota one not work and i would have to buy this one

Sounds like a hit or miss on all of these keys.

Man I really wish knew what to look for better and I could find a single all in one key (not flip) that could be used with the truck and it be reliable. I’d be willing to pay for it. Ugh.

Sheesh all a guy wants to do is have a key with a steamlight sidekick. Sheesh!

its really easy to program. All you need to buy is this:
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078VKM1G3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

programming the key is easy lots of tutorials on Youtube. I did it with the OEM like fob and Key I bought off Amazon when lost my keys.

My key has G on it and the frequency on the remote matched too. I didn’t bother trying to program the buttons after I was not able to program the transponder.

I bought this one (photo attached) months ago but it was (is) low on my list of mods. Was thinking about trying it out now though.

I stumbled across this site just now, and it looks like it's pretty helpful in guiding you to the right key fob including programming instructions, here's mine (2014) for example.

Psych! There's a better site. Example instructions. They even had a YouTube video demonstrating the process.

The Amazon link @da taco man posted is dead for me, but I googled the (amazon) product id and I think this "Techstream" is the equivalent (?)

I'm not exactly sure why this is needed, since there seem to be programming instructions that don't require this dongle. That being said...

I just gave the programming a try, and I was successful in getting the truck into programming mode, but then when I pressed and held the LOCK/UNLOCK buttons, the truck locks started cycling. I thought that was a good sign (finished up the rest of the instructions, such as pressing and holding LOCK), but no dice. I'll give it a try again tomorrow, I feel like a jerk opening and closing my doors at night with neighbors. Maybe I need the dongle after all?

Anybody know if there is a way to wire a Pop-N-Lock up to respond to the "trunk" button on these AIO keyfobs?

    TL;DR:

    1. Techstream dongle needed?
    2. Programming Mode achieved without dongle... have yet to successfully program remote.
    3. Anyone know of how to wire up the Pop-N-Lock to a spot that might respond to the "trunk" button? (I realize this is off-topic, and I will likely find another more appropriate thread to raise from the dead, or start a new one, but if anyone here has hints, DM me).

Here’s the most complete fob programming instructions.

Good luck getting that all in 1 key to work.

There are four different programming commands when setting up or verifying your remote transmitter, they are:

    1. Add mode, used to add a remote to your car that is not currently registered.
    2. Rewrite mode, used to erase all previously registered remotes and allow you to begin again theprogramming process.
    3. Confirmation mode, used to verify the number of remotes that are already programmed in your car.
    4. Prohibit mode, to prohibit allremotes from operating the door locks.

    https://www.carandtruckremotes.com/...eplacement-keyless-entry-control-remotes.html

Procedure To Program ToyotaWireless Remote Transmitters:

Begin with: The driver's door open and unlocked. Key out of the ignition.

    1. Insert and remove the key from the ignition switch 2 times within 5 seconds.

NOTE: Steps 2 and 3 should beperformed within 40 seconds.

    2. Close and open driver's door TWICE.

    3. Insert the key into the ignition andremove it.

NOTE: Steps 4 - 6 should be performed within 40 seconds.

    4. Close and open the driver's door twice.

    5. Insert the key into the ignition.

    6. Close the door.

NOTE: Steps 5 and 6 should be reversed for the following models ONLY (closedoor first, then insert key into ignition):

    2000 - 2005 Celica

    2001 - 2003 Prius

    2001 - 2005 ECHO

    2001 - 2005 RAV4

    2003 - 2004 Avalon

    7. Turn the ignition switch from"Lock" to "On" and back to "Lock" at about 1 second intervals to select the desired mode:

    1 time for ADD mode.

    2 times for REWRITE mode.

    3 times for CONFIRMATION mode.

    5 times for PROHIBITION mode.

    8. Remove the key from the ignition.

    9. To confirm your mode selection, the power locks will now cycle "lock" to "unlock" a number of times corresponding to your key cycles in step 7.

NOTE: If Confirmation or Prohibition modes have been selected, opening the door will complete the procedure.

    10. For Add or Rewrite modes do the following within 40 seconds of Door

    Procedure Lock confirmation:

    A. Press both car transmitter Lock and Unlock buttons simultaneously between 1 and 1.5 seconds and release.

    B. Within 3 seconds of step A, press the transmitter Lock button for more than 1 second and release.

If the keyless entry remote transmitter has been successfullyprogrammed, the power locks will cycle "lock" to "unlock" once at this time.

If there are problems with the remote transmitter or the procedure up to this point, the locks will cycle twice. If thisoccurs, verify that you have received the correct transmitter, and then repeat the above procedure.

    C. If multiple remotes are to bereprogrammed, repeat steps A and B.

    11. Open the driver's door to conclude programming mode

Yea, mine is definitely locking and unlocking twice, indicating some issue with my key fob. Dang.

Sweet. I just ordered one, I’ll report back after I try it.

this is just the case you put the guts inside from the stock fob
But the stock key has a chip in it. you need to transport the chip into this fob or something in order for it to work

In for one... Already added a third key (aftermarket) for which the chip was held inside the plastic case with help from a.piece of tissue...I expect it will be sple to glue into this new case close to the key

The key I bought was stuck together with superglue I think... It decided to come open on it's own
