i had it timed right once the light came on to make it into town and fuel up, i did have a gallon back in the bed because i was way out west in the rural sandhills and you just never know... might not be any place for 40 miles around!
its the most gallons ever i put into the tank in one shot

Mine comes on with close to 2 gallons left. I’ve driven 40 miles after it first came on before, but try not to do that anymore. Once it comes on solid, and doesn’t turn off when you hit the brake and slosh the gas around in the tank, you’ve got around 1.5 gallons left. I’ve ran out twice, filled up both times, my factory tank holds 18.5 gallons on the money.

I have since expanded my fuel system with two air tanks welded together that siphon back and forth with the factory tank. My truck now holds 32 gallons. The fuel mileage is still terrible, but being able to drive over 500 miles between fill ups makes me “feel” like I’m getting good mileage. Haha! I use my scan gauge religiously now, and update my fill up every time. The miles to empty on the scan gauge is very accurate this way.

Why would it suck up dirt only when it was low? It's the same dirt that was there right along. As far as cooling the pump if the truck is still running the pump is being cooled. The fuel goes right through the pump motor and all that is what cools it. The pump is capable of delivering nearly twice the fuel the truck uses the rest is returned to the tank so it's a loop until the truck comes to a hult for lack of fuel.

I found out when the truck hits 150miles I am out of Gas . What a surprise the first time quite embarrassing to be fair it was the first day I owned the truck

So I now fill up at around 100 miles no more running out of gas .

Not much longer. The last time (and probably the only time) my low-gas light turned on I was in the boondocks so all I could do was drive... Just when the little oiled road hit U.S. 395 I ran out. That was about 35-40 miles after the light turned on. (V6 engine, going 60 mph at the time)

For me, it's whenever the gas light comes on and I'm in the middle of Nevada on Hwy 50...

man. i dont even know. i usually just see the gas light go on then i know i need to get gas.
i only get gas when that light comes on.
i set the trip counter as soon as the light stays on solid for a good couple miles or so.

That all depends on the truck and the gauge. You can adjust it if you have a steady hand and a little patience. Remove the cluster and then remove the clear plastic cover. Reinstall the cluster without the plastic lens, it could probably need a good cleaning anyway. I noticed that my needle would stay above 1/2 a tank then drop rapidly, and the gas light would come on before it got down to the empty line, upon filling up it would go higher than the full mark. I filled up at the same gas station every time and used my calculated gas mileage to remove the needle, it simply pulls right off and is held in place by friction, I then put the needle back on at exactly 1/2 a tank, according to miles driven. This method didn’t work out so great. I ended up waiting until the gas light came on solid, and put the needle on at the very bottom edge of the empty mark. This method worked for me, goes all the way full, without passing the mark completely and the gas light is on solid when it gets to the bottom of the empty mark. You may need to leave the cover off of the cluster for a few tanks to make sure it’s where you like it. Be careful not to push the needle on too far because it will contact the face of the cluster and stick, figured that out the hard way. Also make sure your truck is running when you push the needle back on, it will stay where it’s pointed, if it’s off a little, move it again, no big deal.
