Did a little test run with the new puppy in the back while driving around the neighborhood. She did well. Think it helps to have the older beast for some guidance.

5B plates! I miss living up in the Wood River valley. It was so easy to get out every weekend. Hot springs in the fall/winter were a nice perk too.

I'm originally from here, so may be a bit biased.

It's another low-population state with high peaks (13,000+). Great backcountry access, and with Albuquerque being relatively central within the state - every corner is only a few hours away. It's obviously a drier climate, but the summer temps are pretty similar. Areas along the Snake River (Boise, Shoshone, Twin) definitely see temps that are comparable or even hotter. 2017 I think there was a good stretch of days over 100ºF in Lincoln County and nearly 100 days without any precipitation. Fire season is different here too... none of the fast moving desert/sage/cheatgrass fires that sometimes wipe out power to the entire Valley - is the redundant powerline project moving forward?

NM has good fishing and hunting, and depending on the snow year - good skiing/snowboarding and Colorado is a short drive away if need be. Plus - the food is better in NM

He’s pretty ‘special’. Usually looks like he just drank two pots of coffee, did a line of blow, and is ready for whatever the ‘F’ happens next!

CAN U LET THE GSP of leash while out and about. We got a pup about 3 months ago and boy what an active dog. I hope he settles down and starts to listen.

Took a little trip for labor day and brought the pup

 

I know it’s breaking the rules (truck not in pic).... but we had some field time today lure coursing. Truck is full of dog hair if that counts.

Acclimation...

We picked up one of ours and she didn’t make it 200 yards before she tossed cookies everywhere. Miserable. After the next 5 attempts with similar results, my wife started desensitizing. Dog in the car and start it up for ten minutes. Do that once a day for a week and hopefully just getting in won’t trigger anything. Then she started quick trips, like literally down the drive and back. Maybe around the block. 1/4 mile to sonic, etc. she just worked her way up to longer trips and eventually it was all over. If it’s a small dog, hold them high on those short trips so they can see; no disconnect between visual and inner ear.

It took a few months but eventually all was good.
