The good thing about moving from time to time is it is a great way to clean out the junk. About the only old phone I kept for a long time was a POS old flip phone that still worked with Iraqna and Roshan sim cards. Finally tossed it for my retirement move.

My Samsung Omnia used the same connection. There was also an adapter for the headphones. Funny how cellphones later had actual headphone ports, and now we're back to adapters like that with usb-c.

Last month I finally upgraded my old iPhone 5S that was my daughter’s old one with a new 11. Pulling out that old phone for the first time in the tool room was an experience. It had a pink/purple protective case.

Apple does this on purpose. Change the connection every so often so you have to buy all new adapters. I'm shocked the iPad uses usb-c instead of lightning. It's not only the connectors though. The underlying charging tech keeps changing too. My OnePlus uses Warp Charge. I could use a charger from another Android phone, but it won't charge nearly as fast.

My complaint is more that the EU said e waste bad. Apple said F U we want monies. Now they’re saying because they held out so long, in their own drive for money, that switching now would create more e waste because they forced everyone into their stupid proprietary crap.

I don’t care about technologies. I care about standardization of hardware interface. It’s 2020, if the end of the cable can be USB A standardized then the other end can be USB mini or USB C standardized. Not some proprietary shenanigans to make more monies.

the only reason I’m using iPhones is because they’re “free” with my work phone plan. I’ll argue it on the internet but don’t care enough to give that much of a rip, but if I’m buying anything it’ll be with usb C or standardized. Doesn’t matter I’d be moderately okay with apple but if it’s some proprietary nonsense they can F off.

I suppose eventually Apple will have to ditch lightning to keep up faster and more power hungry devices.

I've always had Android phones. I don't like iOS and how confined it is in comparison. I also refuse to give Apple a penny of my own money--they pushed iPads hard on K-12, but the management of them was abysmal. I lost way too many hours of my life fighting with Configurator and weird issues with those things and I'm bitter. Only within the last few years have they gotten to the point where they should have been in 2010.

I do miss my S7 Active, though. Rugged phones are awesome and other than the camera and speed, I think my S10e is worse than that phone was.

Chromebook for schools. There is no contest. As far as the Apple lightning charger connection goes it's very durable and by directional. There is no upside down. The chargers have to be 1.0 amps usually to charge reasonably. If your usbC/mini isn't charging it's probably low amps

Absolutely! Easy to manage, inexpensive, full keyboards, and easily repairable in-house. We only use iPads in a few specific situations now.
