    Hey fellas,

I’ve been riding the CBR quite a bit lately, and I’ve noticed something interesting about the transmission.

Let’s say I’m cruising on a nice flat road using moderate throttle, and I go to upshift from 3rd to 4th.
If I happen to use light pressure from my foot on the shifter, sometimes it feels like the next gear is not fully engaged.

Meaning: I will let out the clutch and the engine spools up like it’s in neutral, but there is also a lot of clashing and clattering coming from the gearbox.
When this happens, I freak out and squeeze the clutch, pop the shifter up again with more force, and it goes into the higher gear correctly.

Should I be more firm with my shifts on this bike, or is there something mechanically wrong with my gearbox?
I’m terrified that I will be going full-bore on the throttle one day, then shift up to a higher gear and grenade the tranny.

    Thoughts?

I would say yes, be more deliberate with the shifts. Both up and down. I’ve had a few instances where I up shifted and it didn’t engage the gear and had to clutch in and try again.

I usually only get something like this from 1st to 2nd if I pussyfoot the up shift. I’d just nut up and shift harder every time and see if you still get the problem.

i think what you are experiencing is what people refer to as the false neutral, this happens some what a lot with the cbr, they do like a more deliberate shift, I notice sometimes when i ride in vans this happens to me more than when i ride in a more firm toed shoe

Duly noted, thanks all. I will be more deliberate and firm with my upshifts and report back after my next ride.

    Thanks!!

Some bikes are more prone to false neutrals than others. Be deliberate with your shifts. Preload the shifter slightly and then shift firmly.

Mine. I considered it being one of the best bikes ive owned, even though it is the smallest cc out of all of them. Its also nice that i have a set of dirt tires for trail riding.

Well, @Sacrifice the rings are finally getting tired on the ol'dirtscooter. I'm just shy of 15k hard miles and if you remember, at 12.5k the exhaust valves were barely out of spec

Which big bore should i go with?

This spring i'll be looking to:
    Big bore
    cams
    kickstart kit
    Lectron Carb

Nice looking stuff. Why can’t they have any shift or brake arms for sportys?? :annoyed:

I doubt the Dyna arms are the same figment even though they’re all listed together.

Send them an email and ask. I’m sure the shifter pegs are the same? I dunno though. Their stuff is great though. I really enjoy my foot pegs and shift peg from them and the price is pretty solid.

Thinking of picking up a Desert Sled (Scrambler). May wait until early 2021 and see if there are any deals on any leftover 2020's.

I went for a ride and brought my DSLR along for the first time in probably four years. Had some fun with it, but was definitely reminded how much easier it is to just pull out your phone and snap a pic.

I think i did the 434 cylinder works kit
Hot cams stage 2 intake & exhaust
Dont see a reason for a kickstart unless you just want the backup, mine never had an issue starting.
Id do the 39mm FCR though
