Looking for a carry piece for a female relative. I’m thinking of a .38/.357 .
    Suggestions?

That's a good size gun. My wife carries .380. With the right bullet, they perform pretty damn well.

Most women I know love the simplicity of a Glock 9, or a .45.

And I'm saying that as not a huge fan of Glocks.

I’ve always been a wheel gun guy but I’m open to automatic.

A gun she will carry with her and feels confident shooting.
A Glock 19 or the Glock 9mm single stack is a good start. M&P shield is another good option.

Is she an experienced shooter or at least has range time or is this a never held a gun before and now you or or her want a gun type deal?

This matters. Ideally, she should choose what works for her. Caliber aside, I hesitate to recommend a wheel gun, but if it has to be, then a .357 mag is the way to go. I’m assuming the ccw pistol will be ccw size.
.38s hollows out of snubs tend to not mushroom out like they are suppose to. This is true for a lot of pistol rounds in different guns.

You can do .380 in a revolver. I own 2 of these. Great little guns. No worries about it not firing.
    https://www.taurususa.com/firearms/revolvers/380/380-revolvers-380-auto-5-round-matte-natural-anodized/#:~:text=Overview,Clips® for easy reloading.
Also, I AM a glock guy, and my wife and nieces are fairly small framed women, and the glocks aren't the best for them. They tend to stovepipe them a lot. I also have the S&W bodyguard, but same issue as the Glocks.

EDIT: The Taurus is tiny too, great for CCW

Let this female relative go to a few shops and try some on, then hopefully shoot several

then pick the one she likes best

picking a gun for someone else is like me telling you what type of underwear you need to wear

Just FYI. Glock 42 .380 on the left, Taurus .380 on the right. 25F25B78-AC74-42E7-9B07-D387FC4F78FB.jpg

why? 9mm can meet FBI defensive standards and is stupid easy to control even out of a small frame gun

Yep. It’s basically .2 thou difference in bullet size, but not a 1890 cartridge like the .38 and puts out almost double the speed with less pressure.

    I agree.
    But I personally prefer .38/.357.
But .40,.41, or .45 in an auto.
