I made the mistake of sending a console vault from one coast to the other after quoting the sale price including shipping. It was already discounted at well over half off before shipping charges. Needless to say I took a bath and the purchaser got one hell of a deal. Live and learn!

You're not kidding! Being in Canada, getting anything shipped from the US is killing us. Not only is our dollar weaker these days, being charged huge amounts for shipping kills it. I recently ordered sequential turn signals from the US @$89 USD + $21 USD in shipping fees and to add to it, it was sent via UPS unbeknownst to me (which is a huge no no for us) and was charged another $55 CAD in taxes and brokerage fees (yes, $37 in brokerage fees to recover $17 in taxes...). So my turn signals cost me $205 CAD door to door.... UPS is the biggest rip off for shipping but the seller used them. And to add to the insult, I still don't have the damn things after I ordered on Aug 22nd, there were delays along the way and a trailer didn't make it in time and the truck was late and yadda yadda... Never again, yes we do live and learn.

But, I generally tell people if you plan on staying on night shift long term, DO NOT try to live during the day and work at night. It leads to all kinds of problems (health, money, marriage, family, etc.) Sleep during the day just as you would at night. Set your expectations for your family and have them understand that you are not a day-walker and to respect the choice you have made.
Get a room in the house (if you can) and get it just as dark as you possibly can and that is your day time sleeping room. If not able to get a room, then invest in a GOOD sleep mask and a white noise machine (or 2) that drowns out the day-walkers and their obtrusive noises (i.e. loud piped trucks, phones, barking dogs, etc.). Do not flip your sleep on your days off, just to please others. If there is an important family function, then by all means, do not ignore. Our clocks are 12 hours flipped from the day-walkers. I do not make noise when my family sleeps at night. I perform quiet functions during that time. (i.e. no truck mods, reframing the walls, cooking meals, etc.) But, I do not sleep on THEIR cycle.
I am not mean about it, but my sleep is just as important as theirs and the respect goes both ways. My regular non-smart phone is turned off or muted when I sleep. There is an emergency cell phone always on and only five people have that number if I am needed while I am sleeping during the day.
Each person has their own situation to deal with and what has worked for me may not be your cup of tea. But, for life longevity and mental sharpness, two to three hours of "sleep" ain't gonna cut it. It wouldn't work if we were day-walkers either. Why would we think it would work for nights too?

My Mrs is always giving me the business for burning the candle on both ends but it works for me.
I tell her I'll be dead for a long time and that I'll get plenty of rest then!

Labor Day Weekend is always around my Birthday (Sunday )
spent most of the day driving on sand (OBX )and spent half the day parked and drinking

Took a nap after lunch in the back and woke up to the sounds of waves crashing

Hey guys. New member here. I'm learning a lot from you guys. I wanted to share what I did to my truck today (actually over a couple days). This is a DIY mod that makes the area behind the rear seats secure so I can store valuables and / or guns back there and keep them out of the hands of auto burglars. If you get a chance to go don't pass it up! It really is a unique area, great beaches (some you can drive on), fantastic seafood restaurants, good fishing and nice people.
Be sure to take the ferry to Ocracoke.

Been fortunate enough to have been a lot of places but that's one place we've never been. It's on my bucket list!

Off topic but thanks to all the firefighters out there. I believe I live in paradise but it was 120 degrees yesterday and a fire in the hills behind my house almost ruined my day. Suppose to return to the low 70s tomorrow and I no longer have to worry about the hills burning.
