This right here. Or if you want a project put a V8 in it. At least then it’s unique and worth the effort. Nothing exciting about the 4.0L V6.

The 2.7L to 4.0L swap has been done by someone here on TW, because they specifically wanted a standard cab V6 Taco. Without doing any research, I'm gonna predict that you're going to need motor, tranny, transfercase, driveshafts, exhaust, complete wiring harness, body ECU, ECM, transponder ECU, transponder key amplifier, underhood fusebox, and possibly the instrument cluster. You will also need bigger tires and a lift because you will end up with 4.10 gears.

    wow
they were really better than their competition back then
the new ones still have just as much endurance
I wish I drove a 5cyl. I only ever drove their other engines but not the famous 5cyl.

the new RS6 coming is gonna be wild

4.0 / 4.slow is so slow and boring
last car I had this slow was Mk4 VW Jetta n/a 2.0L 8v
    commonly known as "2.slow"

V8 might even be simpler/easier, not needing a whole 2.7L-->4.0L conversion/swap parts kit
even though 4.0L 1GR-FE is said to be a reliable (and slow) motor,
LS V8's are said to be reliable as well

Yeah its going to take a lot. If its anything like my 2000 subaru impreza sti swap. You will need to find a wrecked donor truck to make it worth it.

You will probably need to have a shop do a wire merge. Iwire did my subaru. I needed engine, transmission, rear diff (with new final drive on tranny, rear diff needs to match), drive shaft (different length fron 5mt to 6mt), axles (sti wheel hubs are 5x118 while stock is 5x100) wheel hubs, brakes, and ecu.

    I imagine might be similar.

This but after you spend the $$$ to drop another engine in, its still a 2.7L and you could buy another 2.7L tacoma for the same price without the hassle. I see no profit going this route. OP, buy a 4.0 and avoid the headaches.

Find a low mile 2.7,swap it in and turbo it. The 4.0 swap will be a HUGE undertaking. You would literally need an entire donor truck for all the parts.

    I have a 2015 Access Cab, Manual 4.0, 6spd, TRD Offroad w/factory Navigation. 53K miles

I’d entertain selling it. No crazy 30K+ Price, just a honest fair market price. $25,500

I am really just looking for a decent platform to start from. I have looked at some 4.0l manuals but most have frame issues from being in northeast. That and a high price and over 200k for miles. No worries i will keep looking around. Thanks for the input.

Well good luck on your find. Hopefully the money you got for the truck helps out.

Yes. Compared to all the others i looked at this was the the best. I would have liked my engine guys to at least have a look. Anyway i think someone will have a nice vehicle with a new waterpump and engine.

One thing I rarely see mentioned is passing state emissions testing. The VIN on that truck will show a 4 cylinder, but the ECU will report a V6. If you're in a state that does testing I wonder how that would go...

easiest n cheapest would be to put a good 2.7L back in it.

If you are going to do any motor swap, dont even bother with the 4.0L... an LS swap could be done easier and cheaper and you would make WAY more power and probably a good chunk better mpgs.

I think the truck will need to get bar'd. As long the new engine is newer than the truck and has all smog related equipment, they will issue a new sticker.
