    not enough.
SX Der. is strange and in my opinion, only good as a very starter set. Once you get the hang of biking and know how you ride and how much you ride, consider NX or GX. I ran NX for a long time and it was pretty good and rarely gave me an issue but I eventually upgraded to GX shifter and der because it was cheap enough and one was needed. I would definitely upgrade the shifter to GX at least. NX and SX have an issue where the rubber covering for the shift wire doesn't seal properly so water and dust can EASILY enter it.

What's up with the clutch? the clutch would be a problem when you're riding rough terrain, you'll notice the chain and derailleur shifting all over the place on its own.

Absolutely a tire can change how your bike pedals. going from High Roller's to minion twins exo+ with maxxterra will DEFINITELY slow you down. They definitely suck for the uphills but they shine for the downhills. You're probably definitely feeling it on the uphills.

that 30+ is a max pressure. Mostly useful when converting tubeless and getting the tire bead to seat properly or when you have tubes in and really really really really don't want to pinch your tubes.. I run mine up to 40 to get the sealant and beads done correctly. Front for me, I run between 20-25 depending on conditions. rear, I keep around 23 usually.

May swap my rear der with an SLX. Just need something decent with 12spd. Current one looks a touch bent and is skipping a bit. Adjusted a bit today, but need to dive in more.

I’ll be upgrading to GX when something actually breaks. I already upgraded the shifter to NX when the SX shifter broke.

so what happened yesterday is this, forgive me for bad bike vocabulary. The small bolt on the inside of the clutch spring, that bolts the plate to the derailleur, seems to have come loose on the trail. I dropped chain and all of a sudden the derailleur refused to hold tension back so the chain was so slack it kept coming off. Couldn’t figure it out at all. I tightened that screw down on the trail but it didn’t fix anything. A couple of guys I talked to on the trail said the spring inside seems broken. So I called it a day. Came home, assuming broke, and knowing I’d upgrade to a GX when shops opened back up, I decided to open it up and take a look. Well, the spring wasn’t broken and absolutely nothing looked wrong. So I started watching video after video, which was really difficult to find what I needed because all derailleur videos are just setting them up and adjusting for proper shifting.

I finally found one that explained what happened. When that screw came loose, and the spring was allowed to “come out” a little bit, it appears that it sort of returned itself maybe one rotation to a relaxed state instead of having tension. So I had to take the little bolt stopper thing or whatever on the plate (that keeps the derailleur from going back too far) and with it all taken apart except one side of the plate (the gear plate thing is what I’m trying to talk about), I was able to spin the spring tighter by one revolution and then reassemble it all. This fixed it and gave me all the tension I could need back there lol.

This is the bolt that was loose, and you can see the slot the spring catches into right beside my Allen key. That is also the “plate” I am trying to mention that my Allen key is touching.

this is the little stopper thing I took out to allow me to rotate.

Have you used the app yet to find starter settings?

YouTube University. Lots of good videos walking you through derailleur adjustment.

Standard formula for tubeless: body weight / 7, -1 for front, +2 for rear. Example: 170lbs/7= 24. front tire 23, rear 26.

ohhhh. very interesting. that's a very rare thing to have happen. I doubt very few people even see that happening at all. Glad you got it sorted though. Maybe contact SRAM and see if there's a torque spec you should be tightening that bolt to so that it doesn't move again.

that sucks. Yeah, they should be able to tell you what's wrong or if they can warranty it for some reason or another. very strange thing to have happen.

A little Labor Day Shred! Found some new trails in our local area I’ve never hit that are a blast. This was the best elevation to mileage ratio I’ve had out here. 1000+ft at 9miles.

Here’s a view of it immediately after happening to kinda show the issue.

OH. I think I see your issue. so that little "bolt" with the spring on the inside of it is called a "Cage lock". It's essentially used for when you want to disengage the derailleur. What you're missing is a retainign clip on the inside of the bolt. (on your second picture, when the bolt is seated properly, on th eleft side). That said, I don't see how that cage lock is related to your plate coming loose. the bolt that holds your plate should also be tightened. let me get you a pic. one sec.

okay. here it is. hopefully you can see how it works.
this is with the cage lock engaged. so you can see that retaining clip that sits there:
    IMG_20200907_100523.jpg

Now here it is with the cage lock disengaged. it sits nicely inside that little cavity. Pardon the hand, i had to hold the derailleur REALLY far back under tension. I'm not a hand model.

There’s one activity that can hinder your hand modeling career. Please refrain from over doing it.

Ok so I see how that retaining clip affects that little stopper bolt, but do you think it actually plays a part in that bolt/plate/spring coming loose?

hahahahahaha. I'll try to avoid too much manual labor and shock toys. Now I gotta find oven mitts. I'm a bachelor, I don't own any.

Doubtful. I don't see how it does unless there's something else in that clutch mechanism. the bolt that holds your cage plate to the derailleur body is designed to come off because cage plate replacement is a thing. Maybe google "cage plate replacement sram eagle derailleur"? There might even have to be some loctite on there but don't quote me on that. I'm not sure how the clutch mechanism works with that bolt.

Yeah I’m kinda thinking loctite and try to find the torque spec. I just got it good and tight yesterday. Worked today till we hit the serious chunk to finish the ride out.
