Who gets tired of hearing that the TRD Sport 4x4 isn't off road capable? It's a Toyota truck!!

I was joking about the less-than-ideal view over a 3rd gen hood, sport in particular... as a fellow sport owner.

It’s not what the view looks like from inside that counts... it’s how cool you look from the outside looking in. Thats what drives the OR people crazy.

A locker would have gotten you out. Not to mention crawl control.

I bought a Sport a few years ago and being a bit older I don't do much off roading but it 's not gotten stuck yet. I do however get much more use from my scoop than most do with a locker. You see, every time I climb in and look out over the scoop it takes me back in time to driving my 67 GTO with it's useless scoop. That scoop is now worth about three of your ORs. What does your locker do for you EVERY time you get in your truck?

I park my Sport for the winter its so useless, I just use my Tercel to get back and fourth to work. Much more capable vehicle all around.

Gives me confidence for if I end up off road for one reason or another. Can't stand the scoop, but that's me, personally.

This has been a age old debate since the 2nd gen, I thank Toyota for carrying on the tradition for our 3rd gen guys.

However I sincerely hope 4th gen Sport gets more love in terms of functionality to even the playing field.

What more level playing field would a sport need?

If it was only 2x4 then yeah sure.

I know it's more geared toward the road and looks than the OR is, but I don't understand why a locker isn't at least offered in the Sport. The only thing I can think of is that they were thinking it was more for people who want the look and badge, but don't need quite the same level of off road functionality.

    Just names:

TRD = Toyota Racing Development, and all the TRD branded trucks have the same horsepower as the SR5, so what exact “Racing Development “ is involved in that branding?

SR5 = Sport Rally 5(speed manual transmission), and no manual transmission option offered for this line. But the SR did have a 5 speed manual option for awhile, so another meaningless name.

Limited- pretty sure this line is only limited because it’s such a small niche of buyers, not like it’s a sought after “limited edition “.

PRO, still not sure what makes that truck “professional”.

    Marketing...

It is functional as a George Foreman Grill, it just needs a few chicken breasts to cook on the way to the gym.

So much suppressed scoop envy in this thread.
OR owners need a private lounge on TW (verifiable OR VIN required) where they can cuddle and talk about their secret plans to acquire that scoop that's been missing in their life, and the discrete booster seat they're gonna need to see over it.
