Yes, to prevent possibly dropping something conductive across the positive terminal and anything else that could act as a ground. Smoke will follow.

In Ghost Busters, they told the character played by Bill Murray to "Never cross the streams." The same goes for power from your vehicle's electrical system. I don't know if you've ever accidentally contacted both the positive and negative terminals on your battery with a wrench at the same time whilst tightening the clamps, but I have. The flash and bang will really get your attention. (And wait till you see the burn marks on your wrench.) Touching one or the other separately is not a problem, but shorting the terminals together is a big problem. That's why all automotive manufacturers include a cover for your positive battery terminal.

Brother they should arrive tomorrow! SS3 sport model ! What bulbs would u recommend for my headlights those projectors are kinda weak.

 

I looked at what I had today and can’t quite the the cover to cover very well. Ordered some off Amazon that looked kinda widened. Will see ! I’m trying haha

Are you going to swap the Auxbeam bar with the DD SS3 or changing out the fogs to DD SS3?

I have the same headlights. The H1 is a smaller bulb than most. I put these bulbs in them based on the recommendation of the thread below.

Reference this thread for bulbs suggestions. This is the best way to upgrade headlight output as a whole and uses the OEM headlights, but it uses H4 lamps which wont fit in the H1 assembly that we both have. Either way, it has the ouputs for the different bulbs that you can purchase.

Your headlights are the same? I’ll have to look. Some guy on Tacoma 2nd gen group on FB mentioned Sylvania zXe bulbs. He has the same lights as us.

 

Any of the performance bulbs listed in that thread will be great. I had the same Phillips X-treme +130 on my OEM assemblies and loved them, so I stuck with the same ones when I put in the new assemblies.

 

My truck just got back from body shop and they replaced both of them. There’s some square like box wired into them that I don’t remember seeing before. I don’t know if they used the Spyders or something else Maybe wiring for the halos or something ? Any ideas on how to best secure those boxes ? Worry they might toss around when driving

 

Why did the body shop replace them without OEM assemblies? Spyders and others are mainly POS lol. I also ran my own bead of sealer around the edge to water seal them even more.

I dont know about the black boxes mine didnt have that. Mine are from OPT-7 not spyder but similar design. All of the LED trim lights and halos can be wired together or separate if you want. I wired my trim and halos wired into my indicator lap wiring so that they come on with the parking lights, "first click" on the headset knob. But mine were exposed wires that I dressed as opposed to a wiring box.

I got them because I like the look/design and I'm still happy with them. I drive some dark ass roads here in Connecticut and they do great with those Phillips bulbs. I would probably just buy a BHLM set and then do the H4 ultimate upgrade if I were to do it again. But then I would have the same as everyone else lol.

 

Yeah I don’t know the process or whatever they did. When i first got them long time pre wreck I had a sound installer install them. Bc it was a bit out my league and I was super busy with Med school. This time the body shop just did whatever they did. And I didn’t notice until I started doing some mods and saw with this latest install. Hadn’t really glanced in that vicinity before. Maybe it had always been that way. Can snap pics later

 

Yo @tattooedsnake and @TACOMA2NDGEN have a question on the install of the SS3 fogs. Do I need to remove that plastic fender liner that it shows in the diode dynamics install video ? Just curious on your install techniques as our tacos are similar year. Thanks !

 

You don't have to totally remove it. You can cheat and open up just the front / lower portion of it.
