At 37K my transmission went out and the dealership is replacing it under warranty.
My question, it is being replaced with a re-manufactured tranny so should I be concerned about this? I was hoping for a brand new one.

    A little more detail:
    • 2017 Auto, Double Cap TRDOF
    • Purchased Brand New
    • Never towed anything
    • Conservative driver
    • No warning, check engine light, or indication there was anything wrong with the transmission
    • Was driving 55 mph down the highway, stopped at a red light, went to accelerate and the engine just revved like it was in neutral
    • Nice guy stopped and pushed me over to the side of the road
    • Had to be towed home
    • 2 days later towed to dealership
    • Dealer gave me a loaner Tundra because they needed to check the tranny fluid and the process takes a few hours because the vehicle has to cool down. I figured it wasn't a fluid issue because about 6 months after I bought it I read the posts about some 3rd gens having low fluid so I had the level checked through the manual process and all was fine.
    • Dealership texted me about 4 hours later telling me the tranny has to be replaced

I believe that is pretty standard warranty practice

That's pretty standard in the automotive industry.

If the vehicle was on the lot, and had an issue from the get go, then it got new parts; applies to new unsold vehicles.

Being that it's used, remans are used for most larger items including stereos, etc.

That's the manufacturer's call too, not the dealership's.

The really unfortunate part is that I bought the truck brand new and have really taken good care of it with the hopes it would last 10+ years trouble free. With a re-built tranny should I feel confident that it was properly re-built and will last 10 years? Or, should I be skeptical of the re-build and look to sale/trade the vehicle?

how does a transmission die with only 37,000 miles?

It's probably a trans out of a wrecked one from LKQ.

    I'll rephrase what I said.

    Your truck is used.

It became a used truck when you purchased it.

This is standard amongst most major manufacturers and you will have no problem at all with the reman, unless your current one died out of user error.

Nowadays these manufactures are allowed to install remanufactured components like that, and only warrantied for the remainder of the contract. Their still are some companies that are adamant about you using remanufacture parts during their warranty period...they use to send us memo's only new....if you didn't, and used something else you'd be back charged.

I wouldn’t worry about it. It’s not like they just pulled it out of a used truck and put it in yours. It’s been gone over and thoroughly checked. If it wasn’t your fault yours failed, it would take you being incredibly unlucky to end up with a lemon replacing your lemon.

You tell me. Driving down the highway, stopped at a red light, went to accelerate and the engine just revved like it was in neutral. Reverse still worked but clunked very hard when shifting into reverse.

That's a fair point. I'm a little irrational right now given the terrible bad luck.

With the reman tranny will I need to ask them to do all the TSB flashes that came out shortly after I bought the truck, or will they do all those without being asked?

Years ago I had a Taurus SHO. My tranny went out at 36,000. They replaced it with a reman tranny, 5k miles later that one went out too. Thanks God for the extended warranty, I got another reman tranny. 6 month in to my third tranny it started giving me problems again. I traded in the car and never bought another Ford again. Said that, I don't trust anything reman unless it's done by a very knowledgeable professional at a trusted indy shop.
