ADS Off-Road Racing Shocks - Information, Pictures, & BS Thread

So dumb question.

Anyone have a writeup/link on the clickers? - righty tighty, lefty loosy, which direction makes the ride smoother/rougher, which direction for heavier loads, etc?

First time i've owned a set

 

Yup righty tighty lefty loosy. I go full open (loosy) for rocky, slow speed trails. I go full closed (tighty) for higher speed off-road travel, desert, whoops, etc. For on road I am on the open side of things (~4-5 clicks from full open), and usually add a click or two to the rear when I load up. When I took off my swaybar I also added a couple clicks to the front to help that feel out. I'd say start at full open or full closed and drive around and start adjusting until you get to your sweet spot. Congrats!

They have a sticker on them telling you which way to turn for soft and stiff...

 

100% you can and they are. I honestly didn't really appreciate it until I did a bunch of desert driving on a trip and turned them all the way tight and took off. It was such a big improvement. A buddy of mine on the trip had a full OME nitrocharger setup and there was no way he could keep up.

2.5’s for a 4th gen 4runner although I had them in a 3rd gen 4runner. Some surface scratches from interference with lower link or gas tank skid as they rotated on a trip. No leaks whatsoever, bushings in good condition and no pits on shafts. Located in Durango, CO

Dude I'd be all over this but I'm in between life events right now otherwise I'd snatch these in a heartbeat.

Also anyone know if you can go from regular to extended travel when you revalve like other brands ?

 

Since everyone is on the topic of lift. I just installed these. I added two extra turns before putting on, so 7 threads are now showing. They are 650# coils with no bumper or winch yet. I lost about an inch of lift from my old coil overs.
For those with close to a 3” lift how many threads are showing? Does anyone recommend a small spacer instead of taking out all the preload?
Are you guys using the punch and adjusting the collar on the truck?

I have the 600lb springs, stock weight in the front. I have 12 threads showing on my passenger side and 15 threads showing on the drivers side. Put me at 23" from hub to bottom of the fender. I would adjust for a little more preload.

 

Ok thank you! Wow, so that is basically double what I have.

 

I measured by shock length. I have an older set with a stroke of only 4 inches. I picked a measuring point from the top hat to the lower shock mount bolt and set the pre-load to get:
ride hight = shock length at full droop - ½stroke length.

This way my ride hight was in the middle of my shock travel. And have equal up and down travel.

I used the fender to hub distance to stretch it to 2 inches and the off road drive quality suffered. I had very little down travel, and I’d top out far too easily. I ended up putting some ¼ inch top hat spacers plates for an additional ½ inch but only net about 1 inch lift over stock. Ride quality and usable shock travel over chasing some lift hight number was the lesson I learned.

Sooo much happiness. The rear rides flipping awesome. It does need a little adjustment but I’m going to wait until I can get some consistent dirt time.
The front, albeit worlds better than it was before, is the weak link, but zona and ads are going to be working on that too.

i love the clackity. Loud outside but roll up the windows and it’s a faint clicking, turn the stereo on, or hold any conversation and it’s gone. That’s cool. I like the clicks but my wife doesn’t. Wait until she hears the fronts in a couple months lol!
