What's the improvement in the Ryzen over the one in the list? Also what's the price - can you link to Amazon please? I copied the list that Tyler had sent me (possibly randomly) based on a video editing build:

    https://pcpartpicker.com/b/QBTCmG

I know enough about the basic functions (or think I do) of parts, that's where my knowledge stops.

The reason I'm building a computer is for work where I host a classroom through Zoom while keeping about 6 browsing windows (including one for TW :p) open and am making materials for lessons in Powerpoint simultaneously and my poor 2013 Macbook lappy isn't taking it too well. That said I've done video editing in the past and with a machine that won't slow me down, the likelihood of making films for my school once in awhile definitely is there.

In the near future the new area to look for work might be digital materials to enhance face to face classrooms (not everyone learns well with plain textbooks so I'd like to develop what I've been doing on PowerPoint and see if I can take a night / online learning programming course).

I just copied all the things from the parts list you linked me. New knowledge about the compatibility checker.

    Suggest a power supply?

Can you link a GPU which isn't over $3-500?

So what's the difference between these and what I saw on MS's site?

    Thanks y'all.

Not up to date on cards, maybe @what road or @Kwikvette can chime in. But here are some good ones:

    https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce...ild=1&keywords=gtx+1060&qid=1599549951&sr=8-3

    https://www.amazon.com/XFX-Radeon-1...ild=1&keywords=gtx+1060&qid=1599549951&sr=8-2

As for operating system, it's exactly the same except the ones I linked you are meant for manufacturers or wholesalers. They get the software for pennies on the dollar and sell it to you for cheap.

This PSU is what I just got for my friend: https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Maste...jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==

@Dalandser My best advice is to use all those build threads on that website as a template, baseline, or simply just inspiration. The best way to learn about PC Building is to do research on each and every part, see what's in your price range, pros-n-cons of each thing, and pick what you want.

You're 100% right on that, but I'd like to get the ball rolling as soon as possible and between getting my can of worms street legal, keeping the wife content with at least bare bones rations of quality time, and work, this is my limitation. I'm open to all suggestions on platforms. It's easier to compare what you guys recommend.

It shouldn't take that long to pick out a few things, I really can't recommend picking random CPU's or GPU's though. What I say is go through the completed builds section of that website and pick one out you like. I haven't built a new PC in years so my knowledge of modern cards and CPU's are not useful.

I'll keep a list of parts if anyone wants to throw suggestions my way for parts. GPU would be less than $500.

How good are these as legitimate guides would you guys say?

    https://pcpartpicker.com/guide/

That's really where I'm at. Carey Holzman's channel's my background on what basic parts do / how they connect. I feel like if I have a good guide for picking parts I can build it no problem.

@what road and @Kwikvette do you guys like this guide since it's AMD?

Seems like a good start, look up videos on YouTube of what other people are doing. Make a list of potential products for each component in the computer.

A great channel to watch is LinusTechTips.

You're not giving me the easy road advise. Can't fault you for that - I'm the same way usually for sure haha. OK but 100% will ask you guys for more knowledge.

I'd love to tell you to just pick one of those lists and buy the stuff on it, but that's not really the best way to build a PC and I don't want you to have regrets down the road with all these random parts you know thing about.

Frankly I'm not up to date on current CPU and GPU tech, it changes quickly. This is my computer, I upgraded it recently. I didn't call it a brand new build because I reused a lot of parts from my original 2014 PC. https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CnCqf9
