I did ask if it would be a new tranny or reman, and they told me reman. Maybe that was just their default answer.

I'm seriously considering this. I like the Tundra a lot that their letting me drive. Do you think I could work this to get a damn good deal on a Tundra?

They will not put a used transmission in the vehicle if it is under warranty.

Thought these manufactures now take the transmission in as a core and will give you a remanufactured one with all the newer updates even if in warranty.

No. Toyota re-manufactures it. It is not a repaired unit. It is not a rebuilt unit, it is a remanufactured unit. Pretty much everything that goes in there is new except the case, bolts and a few other odds and ends. But the case, bolts and odds and ends add up to real money. Brackets too.

I researched the extended warranty when I bought my truck.

Pretty sure it says that anything that goes wrong, Toyota reserves the right to use “used” parts in the repair.

I believe that if anything failed on my dime, Toyota would use new parts...lol

They sure will if you have 37k they'll put a used one with 30k on it in a heartbeat.

You really think LKQ is putting mileage on all their transmissions and Toyota is sending a trans to Japan to be remanufactured? Go ahead and believe that. The dealership will do what's cheapest.

Imo, i've seen many of these remanufactured components perform, and have reliability better than the original.

Again, it's not LKQ. It is a reman from Toyota and they back that component with a warranty. Dealer has no say, ever, in where a component is sourced. Toyota pays dealer and tells dealer what to do. Did they reman it in Japan? Probably not. There is probably a company over here that remans them for Toyota to Toyota specs.
LKQ, in this case, would be a junkyard transmission that had close to the same mileage as OP. It would be installed without opening it up.

Exactly, because they reman them to new spec. Our company does the same and a reman one from the factory (my company) has a new warranty and all new components in the case. Just the housing and brackets and stuff are reused. We then sell them to the OEM at about 70% of new price.
Huge difference between a reman and a rebuild or a repair.

The Parts/Service monkeys at most dealers would be completely unaware of this phenomenon. Certainly they ordered a remanned transmission b/c, in fact, there isn't an active part number for a "new" transmission for a Tacoma. The only active transmission part number is 35010-04120-84. That "-84" is the indicator for reman in the Toyota kanban parts system. But if Toyota doesn't have a rebuilt transmission in one of the US parts depots and the US Toyota re-manufacturer doesn't have a transmission ready to ship you're going to get a factory brand new transmission in the reman crate. The only way you'd know if you looked on the outside of the case and looked for the part number (which you may be able to do when you get the truck back). If it's remanned it'll be shown on the part, usually around where the part number would be afixed. By selling the dealer a new transmission in a reman box that requires the dealer to send the blown up transmission back to the Toyota reman facility so they can then now have a reman ready to go next time around. There's a $1000 core charge on the above part number. If there actually was an active new part number (which wouldn't have a core charge) and the dealer did use that to buy your replacement the old transmission would have been thrown in the dumpster out back. Obviously Toyota wants to discourage that. Hence there's only a reman part number for the aforementioned parts monkeys to order.

Factory and extended warranty-the vehicle will get a reman unit
Aftermarket warranty-it will get most likely get a used unit. Aftermarket warranties always go the cheapest route

I don't think I've seen one with a manual transmission - not since the 80's. There were none on the giant-ass lot I bought mine from.
