TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

I've been without the gasket for years now

 

For brands offering steel and AL, the difference was closer 60-70lbs. I've done this swap and it's not noticeable when comparing sprung vs unsprung weight. Ended up going back to steel for strength. But fabricated parts with 1/8", instead of 3/16. May end up swapping .to all 1/8 because I don't really crawl too much.


I noticed the suggestion for upgrading the tensioner but did anyone swap on a stock bearing instead of the double (longer barrel)?

Noticed when I took off the pulley, the post height looked different on the Roush and Magnuson. I mounted the pulley c-clip down but the other way looked like like it was a bit far off.

 

I'm running the stock bearing on the roush tensioner. I had to make a small spacer out of a washer to get the belt alignment perfect

 

I came across this on the FJ specific forum. Looks like new digital gauge set replacement. If they’re making these for the FJ, then the early second gens can’t be too far off.

That pulley is on wrong bro. You need to flip it.

 

We need to contact them about making one for us with an option for an integrated boost gauge. That would be freaking tits. EXCELLENT find brother!

 

I've already reached out to them on that possibility for the FJ version...we shall see what they say.

 

I've had absolutely terrible luck with boost gauges. All of them have gone bad, I really like my latest one though, which is very similar to the one you have now. I do really like yours.

I still have mine. I recently glued it down pretty good, and it's not particularly deteriorating yet.

 

my autometer sport comp II analog boost gauge has been going strong since 2011.

 

Interestingly, mine transferred across without any modification/spacers.

 

+1 for autometer. I've had my Autometer 7507 Phantom 2 has been rock solid since 2013. I replaced the rubber boot that connects the hose to the supercharger port once.

 

I miss my power enterprise boost gauge. It had an integrated controller into it. I think AEM copied it for awhile but came out with their own later on.

Getting so close. Pulled off my heads yesterday and dropped off for resurface. Boosting by end of the month..

whats the surfacing bill come to? changing out any other components too?

 

+2 for Autometer gauges. I went with Speedhut in my Tacoma, because of the available customization options, but I've run Autometer in my Shelby for years with zero problems.

 

$70 for both heads. The old shop I used to go to was $120/head. I was going to do valve stem seals but they told me it would need a valve adjustment at that point. I left all the cams and caps at home so skipped on it. I'll save it for the next 1GR I build..

 

In the taco I plan on running tanabe boost and intercooler gauge. Wantes to run the afr as well but will have to run aem for the obd2 and wider displayed range.
