    King does this as well with their 2.5's for our trucks. I never did like that.

    Unless the shaft is a take off from some other application where the length is longer than the usual 5.5 inches of shaft necessary for the travel we need and they are just using up the additional not needed space this way, I see it as a waste of shock shaft travel otherwise.

    Understanding that the UCAs are the limiting factory for droop and on up travel the lower arms contacting the bumps, I'm not sure what you are referring to as far as dead space and robbing potential travel. In other words the shocks have to be limited when considering the confines of the factory suspension which considers the maximum range of motion possible due to the front drive train, ROM of UCAs and the factory mounting points.

    These coilovers literally are speced to achieve as much travel as possible both without over extending or collapsing the shock before bumping out. With our HS extended Elka's, you cannot do anything any different to get additional travel period. The only way to get more travel out of the stock front end and still use the factory upper mounts would be to go long travel requiring longer uppers, lowers and drive shafts.

    From a production standpoint it wouldn't make much sense to manufacture various shaft lengths. Also because the preload and or coil would need to be different base on the application, different spacers could be utilized for the appropriate lower spring seat position.

    Gonna take a guess here. They get a discount on having a butt ton of these made over having a butt ton of different sizes made. So to save money, they space what is needed for vehicle application.

    Elka 2.5 RR w/ adjusters front and rear, JBA UCA's, Icon RXT, SEMA 4R pro wheels, Meso Customs interior lights, Wheeler's Superbumps front and rear
    The standard length rears would work, but would likely limit down travel. If you purchase through @HeadStrong Off-Road (recommended!) they offer an extended length version they collaborated with Elka on to work better with aftermarket leafs (OME, Icon RXT's, etc.).

    Just received my 2.5s for 2-3in of lift! The way I'm reading is this should be set from Elka at 2.5in of lift? Im guessing I may need to adjust it depending on extra weight to get my desired height. I also don't want to do any damage to the CO by doing the adjusting, so it's best to jack the truck up to relieve compression before adjusting? Or should I be removing the entire CO and have them adjusted with a spring compression tool in the work bench?

    These are my first set of true COs as I'm currently running 5100s and 887 springs. I just don't want to screw anything up when trying to adjust them.

    They can be adjusted on vehicle. Raise wheels off ground to relieve spring tension. Lube everything with wd40 or similar. Back out the set screw til its loose, then screw it back in til it gets a little tension. Make your adjustment. If you see that the collar has skipped a thread, pull the shocks off the vehicle and compress the spring to correct.

    For a very minor adjustment yes it “can” be done on the truck but it really needs to be done off. Which sucks ask me how I know lol

    Yea, the more I read and asked on a few sites, the consensus seemed to be to just remove them to save yourself any headaches. Alluminum is soft and I'd rather play it safe.

    Trucks rides great with barely any preload on the 650lb coils.
