POLL: MOLLE RACKS

Went by the dealer again, they do have a sunroof truck on the lot, was hoping is was unlocked, but wasn't. I was able to see how the headliner is. Not that people that overland have people in the back seat too often, but head room will be sacrificed some installing a rack. There is also a dome light right in the path of the grab handles, so it will have to be cutout for light access. other option would be to offset it behind the light and mount it from the grab handles to the coat rack hooks. I need someone near Denton, TX to allow me access to their rig for a couple hours to build templates and get measurements. I would pay for the time or give them highly discounted price on SR headliner rack. They would also need to come back for test fitting. Anyone interested, let me know. thanks.

 

I am fine with the logo, just would like to see it somewhere else besides right in the middle. That is kind of a premium space for somebody reaching back to the rack from the driver’s seat. Maybe put it over on the end next to one of the handles? Or maybe etch it into the metal instead of cutting it.

I’m curious why everyone is complaining about the logo being so big and in the way? Every pic I’ve seen is on par with any other mfg and doesn’t affecting mounting at all.

 

Price is the same as confirmed by OP. Show me which rows are blocked by the logo. I don’t see it. The over head logo in the in center where you don’t have mounts. The console logo is where is sits flat against the console. Where you aren’t going to mount anything.

 

The logo looks fine, there is enough slots for everything you need on the rack. The logo will not stop you from attaching all of your super important gear. If it bothers that many people remove the logo and add a small Tacoma truck or a Sasquatch, or a mountain range. People love that.

The lip that points up on the front and rear making it look like its tight against the head liner, nice touch.

As for the lower center console Molle panel. Your hardware has to be more involved than just a bolt on to the plastic. The rear console piece is held on by a couple of plastic clips only. You may need to create an inner/backing bracket for a more secure attachment point. Trying to avoid it getting ripped off by people reaching in pulling pouches when standing at the passenger doors not in the cab.

yes, I can laser out a logo or another square, or more holes, it doesnt cost any more. cost comes from how much material is used to make overall size of completed part, any drop material, and the qty of parts cut at one time. the laser just cuts, it doesnt know the difference. If i were cutting this by hand, then maybe, but these are CAD programs loaded into a laser cutter.

 

yeah, researching the best method for the console mount. headliner i got. console will need anchors, rivnuts or jack nuts installed. also thought about using screw on knobs for console so it can be removed if needed for extra people foot room or if they have more under seat storage to get to and console gear would get in the way, its not a part for everyone. i was thinking about just mounting some knives or something thin to it. first aid bag would fit nice with a velcro tear away so it can be removed fast, then you can access under seat storage or get first aid gear in an emergency.

 

lip on headliner is also for making part rigid. my daughter can literally hang on this rack and she is 75lbs. thanks for the comments.

 

I have been listening to comments and will make some design changes based on that, however i know you cant please everyone. thanks for the comments. hopefully i can adjust some things to the liking of "most" people and then i will take your money. lol.

 

I wonder how many of these naysayers produce products without branding? None I bet. The products look great man - hope you sell more than you imagined - living the American Dream

Q: Is there a spacer between the panel & center console? Looks like it mounts flush from the picture...did I miss something there? MOLLE is enough of a PITA to weave properly.

 

didn't have it mounted in photo, and still dont, waiting on hardware. it will have half inch spacers behind it. Also thinking of using screw on knobs as an option for mounting. this would allow someone to remove for extra foot space when more people are traveling, access to underseat storage if item on molle is too big to lift seat bottom, and for molle weaving.

 

i look at everything and see labels, stickers, names, logos, on everything. the world doesnt work on no name stuff. i understand the whole thing of minimalism and debadging, but that only goes so far. to me, a product with no logo or label screams of cheaply made, like the producer doesnt want people to know where it came from cause it will need replaced soon. And no, i am not talking about everybody. I am sure there are high quality parts with no logos or labels, just like there are very cheaply made items with logos. I however am on the side of being proud of what you make and you want people to know who makes it. No, it doesnt have to be in the place or size of the original that i posted, but somewhere. I think i can make some adjustments and have a good compromise for those that dont like logos.

 

One more thing about the logo... Part of it kinda looks like this and I can't unsee it...

You are convinced you are right about the logo, which is fine. It's your product and you don't have to justify your decisions about it to anyone. However, I think there are some flaws in your understanding of how brands work:

1. The Nike swooshtika and the Apple apple work as standalone graphics because everyone is familiar with the brands already. They couldn't use JUST the graphics in their early days.
2. The DESMO is a cool design. But it is so heavily stylized as to be difficult to read. Someday it may be instantly recognizable but until then, see #1.
3. A graphical logo with no other information is not helpful until it is recognizable. Even if a potential customer sees it, decodes it and enters it into a search engine what does he get?

How has that helped you?
4. A brand is much more than just a logo. It is a shorthand way of understanding your value proposition. It is your promise to customers. It takes a long time to establish the brand meaning. A slick logo doesn't do any of that. It can only stand for those things after the fact.
5. Great products create great brands. They cannot be established a priori. Steve Jobs didn't set out to establish a great brand. He set out to create "insanely great products" and got the brand as a result. Same with Michael Jordan and Nike or any valuable brand you can name.

I think you have a potentially great product(s). But a tasteful sticker (or laser engraving) with some actual contact information would work better for you, IMHO. And, yes, I avoid products with big graphics on them as much as possible. I put a cover on my phone. My T shirts are plain. I de-badge my cars as much as possible. I don't buy Nikes or North Face or dozens of other good products because I'm quirky about big, stupid graphics.
