Who gets tired of hearing that the TRD Sport 4x4 isn't off road capable? It's a Toyota truck!!

I'm just here to instigate/bump this thread to see how much further it goes lol.

Buy what you want people...a locker is more useful to some, a scoop is more visually appealing to others.

Yes, a lot of marketing. But TRD isn't just for racing, although was born out of racing. They also develop things for off road as well. I think Pro solely means it has all the gizmos and gadgets they currently offer plus a lot of cosmetics and sold at a premium. I'm jealous of the Pro suspension, but I don't want the hood scoop and don't need any of the cosmetics such as the stitched embroidery.

To be fair, I think this thread is largely people just giving one another crap out of fun. I bought the OR because it had what I wanted for my lifestyle. Not everyone's lifestyle is like mine though and neither are their priorities.

Oh for sure, unfortunately I was part of this thread since day 1 and there are actually people quite passionate about the scoop vs locker debate lol

Definitely those. I'm one of them lol, but I'm not going to crap on someone just because they wanted that more. Evidently there's an entire thread of people who want to swap out hoods for their trucks so it matters a lot to some people. I hated the scoop and wanted a locker (no matter what my next truck was) so it just happened to work for me.

If only lockers could be swapped as easily as a hood, we's really get to see some TW hornswoggling. :)

You don't need one, especially if you've got the scoop.

They're finicky and don't always work anyway. Like a high end hooker you paid up front..

Your rear differential allows your wheels to spin independently from one another, which is good for turning and going around corners since one will need to spin faster than the other.

The issue is that, when off roading especially, you can lose traction with the ground and you'll be left with one wheel spinning and the wheel with traction will be not moving since there's less resistance to the wheel without traction. (Yes, this can happen in 4WD too).

A locker will lock the differential and force both wheels to spin, so now the one with traction will now turn and thus allow you to continue.

Yes. Although, I don't understand why the TRD Sport doesn't have a locker. I can understand no crawl control, but at least include a locker! But I also believe it has a smaller rear end than the OR does so perhaps that has something to do with it.

    Never trust a pretty face.
It was a rhetorical question. @SweetT knows damn good and well what a diff locker does. :D

Except that the sport has a LSD "limited slip differential" that automatically stops the slipping wheel from spinning (using the break on that wheel) to force power to the other wheel with traction, essentially doing the same thing.

Yes, much the same as crawl control works. Not quite the same as a locker, but accomplishes the same goal. This is how crawl control also a great substitute for having a front locker. Again, not the same thing, but accomplishes the same goal.

Buy a Sport. Why? Because 6 spd MT and AC.

#1, get rid of stock tires. Don't care if you get prettyboi rims, just get rid of queball cheapass OEM tires.

#2 get locker (s) and Rear Lo mod.

    #3 get OVT, 2.0

    #4 get re-geared, 4.88

#5 lift or monkey with your suspension, at the very least new shocks.

Not only capable, balls to the canyon fun!

That should about wrap this thread up.

Omit #2 and crawl control added and it can all apply to the OR for not much of a difference in price.
