Lol they were pretty rare when I was searching too, but I think they make up less than 5% of total sales. I have seen one though that was a 2016 or 17!

Dealer i bought my 2020 from had at least 3 on their lot back in march, by august everything was gone. I was told of all the thousands of tacoma's sold worldwide less than 6% have a manual transmission.

Does Toyota own this message forum? How can they legally make her nuke her account?

I'm in logistics. I've seen tons of LKQ parts dropped at many dealerships. What are you going by?

Dealership technicians dont work on transmission internals anymore . I doubt they are given time to drop a valve body these days .
Simply drop a reman transmission in there , add oil and send the customer on his way . Sad !!

Good to know! That's probably one of the first pickups I've seen without one apart from the mini trucks (i.e. old ranger, s10, etc) that would attach them to the bumper. I'd just never seen a more modern Tacoma without one.

I am no expert here, just going by what I read.

From what I remember, when a lemon law or buyback is drawn up, there is some wording about non disclosure- if you sign the document, you are legally bound not to talk. You don’t have to sign, but if you don’t you don’t get the buy back.

I remember at least one member who was posting about a lemon law/ buy back and how he wasn’t supposed to be talking about it in forums, but did it anyway. He was permabanned, but probably because he was a douche to other members, not because of any outside legal pressure.

I also know of someone who went through this process and bought a new Tacoma and just doesn’t discuss it. Still an active member.

Do you think I'm in position to request a buy back?

Uhh....have you interacted with dealer service techs lately? There's no effing way I'd want some random dealer tech opening up my transmission, engine or transfer case. I don't think I'd trust them with an oil change on any of my vehicles.

Most likely not. There's both a time limit on the Lemon Laws (37k is most likely beyond the period allowed) and it has to be a repeated or extremely long attempt to fix.

You're getting a replaced transmission that is inspected and should be equal in quality to a new unit. The shop is doing what is required in the warranty that you agreed to by purchasing the Taco in the first place.

If there are issues with the replaced transmission, then you may have a reason.

If it was me, and I was thinking about a Tundra anyway, I would talk to the dealership about trading in and see what kind of deal I would get - in a nice, pleasant manner.

I am sure they will say they will work with you, but if it’s actually true is another matter.

You can always escalate this to Toyota Corp, but maybe try and make a deal at the dealership first.

Whatever you do, start making notes of every conversation, names/ dates/ what was said.

It will come in handy later down the road if you aren’t getting satisfaction.

6 percent is the USA not worldwide, the Tacoma is only sold in North America. Many foreign countries sell many more manuals than here.

I had a brand New Plymouth Voyager (when I had 4 kids etc.....lol) and the transmission went out with 3700 miles on it, that’s right 3700, not 37,000. Never felt right after that so traded for a Honda Odyssey. Glad those days are over!!

It seems that too many folks have lessons learned with FCA 'quality.' It was one and done for us, except that I was somehow dumb enough to be cross shopping Wranglers with the Taco.

I bought two Wranglers and a Grand Cherokee since I had that van. Much much newer so thought maybe that would be fine. The Wranglers were OK, just had Jeep stuff but never had to walk home, the Grand Cherokee’s Mercedes 10 speed (or whatever) was a POS. Hard shifts, delayed shifts, terrible. Sold it off early.
