So are you going with asphalt / fiberglass shingles, or metal roof, or what’s the plan?

There is a code minimum for airspace above the insulation in the BC building code , some times adding strapping is the only way to achieve the minimum height depending on rafter size and insulation depth but also is best practice to allow for cross ventilation of the bays

That will stand up better when the trees start shedding. Very nice build. Really enjoying following along and learning.

All strapping on and cut flush at gables , Monday I just need to add fill blocking between strapping at gable roof edges and above rake walls so shear walls are connected to roof diaphragm then I can start plywood

This morning I finished up the blocking that goes between the strapping at the roof edges and above the rake walls to connect the shear walls to the roof sheeting diaphragm .

Got one side sheeted and nailed off , install the sheeting on the other side tomorrow .

H clips by yourself are a pain in the ass

I'm hoping US code (or at least Minnesota) catches up to canadian residential code someday. We just like to pretend ventilation is an afterthought and make really good mold farms. We actually base all of our building science practices at work off the Canadian standard now, since the US standards cant get out of their own way when it comes to new science and building materials/practices.

our code is transitioning to even more strict airtightness and insulation requirements in 5 steps between now and 2030 culminating in all buildings in BC needing to be built to Net Zero ready standards by 2030 . I'm currently taking online upgrade courses as part of the BC residential builder licensing program to learn about the new step code requirements and how to implement solutions to them in the field. In fact I'm using my shop building to try out a few things , more on that later .
