Mine just cracked. Sitting in a parking lot warming it up while I was doing some work emails. So nothing hit it. I’m pretty sure it was thermal related as it’s 35° in Denver today.

No, it was probably a chip you didn't see or hear. The warranty is for manufacturer defects, not damage, that's on your comprehensive auto policy.

You could’ve had a rock chip that you didn’t know about hidden down in the bottom of the windshield in the cold just made it crack more Try looking at the beginning of the crack and see if you see any kind a little rock chip If not Still not sure it would be covered under warranty you can try by going to the dealer see what they say

Yeah, but I would think glass that cracks due to thermal expansion is a defect? There aren’t any chips in it.

Go ahead and ask, doesn't hurt, but I'm pretty sure you already know they're going to blame damage.

Similar thing happened to me after moving from NJ to AZ, rearview mirror took a huge chunk of glass with it. Dealer said tough luck, probably result of a small chip I didnt notice that just expanded.

Its not covered under warranty, good luck, but they're gonna laugh at you when you ask.

Just got off the phone with the dealership. They said as long as it wasn’t an impact, it’s covered. I have an appointment in 3.5 hours, so I’ll find out. There aren’t any chips in it, and I know nothing just hit it, so should be covered.

Yeah, but this is the first time we dropped over 60° in such a short time.

Maybe, they told me the same thing, then when I got there the service manager intervened and said its not covered.

My phone did the same thing once. It was -27 out, I cleared the snow off the driveway then went and plugged in my phone. The instant -27 to battery charging hot cracked the screen.

That’s how it was in Denver yesterday :)

I’ll update when I find out. Seemed like one of those things that could have gone either way. I would have put my money on it not being covered too FWIW....

If the dealer doesn't cover it under warranty, check with your insurance. In Florida the insurance will (has to by law) replace it without a deductible and without getting dinged against your no-claim record. I know some other states have that also, but not all of them.

It seems like a lot of newer cars have that happen.

Hopefully. If not, I’m sure the prorated refund I get on the extended platinum care will cover the cost. If warranty doesn’t cover stuff like this, then I don’t really see a point in extending it :D

My dumb ass converted 35° to Fahrenheit and was like "what is the big deal with 95° heat?" Then I became less stupid and realized that there are places that were not 116° yesterday like it was here. the raindrops on the hood messed with my head. I need a break....

That sucks man. Most likely they wont do anything about it

Im on my second windshield which is cracked already and im only at 18k miles. I dont tailgate and avoid big trucks.

Never an issue on my previous vehicles, this windshield seems to be extra fragile from my experience. When ill replace my second one, i will apply a protective film on the outside.

3 chips on mine, stock though. I just keep having safelite repair it. Last taco(2011) had 5 fkn windshields & multiple chips on every one. I've gone through so many vehicles in the last 22 yrs and not one had such a delicate windshield.

if the dealer doesn't work with you, your comprehensive insurance may cover glass. I switched to Geico last month having no idea I had a glass policy...called and it cost me 50 bucks to replace OEM glass.
