Is shitting in a hole in the ground no longer acceptable?

 

I can understand extremely popular places.

I honestly don't mind squatting over a hole in the ground.

I'm going the other direction from mankind, only eating meat and shitting in the ground

 

Only an issue in high use areas. I prefer shitting in a hole. The bucket and chemicals are in the truck when needed.

 

This is the preferred method. Shitting in a bucket is for plebes and city-slickers

So, this question was actually for a buddy, who is trying to get his wife to enjoy camping more. Personally, my entire family is with you guys - hole is the preferred method; bucket-style is used in high use areas (which we try to avoid ).

Thanks @Blackdawg and @Digiratus for the links. Probably recommend Monte's just as a first attempt, since $100 is a bit steep for a "trying it out," but obviously great for someone who knows what they are doing.

 

The bucket is key for most people of the female variety to having a great time. It's just more comfortable.


And while a hole in the ground is good most the time, I personally think just getting to sit in reasonable comfort is worth it. I enjoy the view more that way

 

attach a toilet seat to a welded frame you stick in the hitch receiver. luxury.

my buddy attached a toilet seat to a plastic folding chair and cut out the middle of the seat. pretty great camping throne

That's fine if you don't mind wiping your ass in front of 5 other guys. The bucket offers a little more portability.

 

I have a buddy who just cut a 6" hole in a basic camp chair for that purpose

 

Am I the only person who thinks these are kind of pointless? Like we've all dropped off ledges and slammed onto a hitch...and it just slides off. I guess if you wanted to back into a steep wall and then continue to back up the wall this thing might make it easier...but really, whats the benefit of this thing sitting 1-2" below the receiver just so you don't hit the receiver on the ground?

 

You’re missing the most important point: making money off 3rd gen owners by selling them useless shit

 

I mean I guess it would have prevented one of my chain holders from getting bent up after dropping off a ledge. Still doesn't justify it for me personally.

 

It would be something to consider if I wanted to play with the Tundra with all my stupid sensors. But, I don't plan to take it offroad any time soon.

well ya, that is actually the only use. If you make anything called armor for a tacoma..some bro with extra money will buy it so they can drive on a forest road with extra confidence.

Ya but the bumper and all of its sensors is still fully exposed. Unless you land dead on that plate, nothing prevents the rest of the bumper from leaning into or hitting the rock. Its like a false sense of security. If you think that that little 8" wide slanted piece of metal is going to save your bumper any more than the protruding hitch already does while doing any substantial offroading at all you're delusional. Or same thing, you'd have to back straight into THAT hitch thing to stop you from hitting the bumper. come at a slight angle, bumper still gets hit. it doesen't protect shit, unless the hitch receiver is super low profile i guess and tucked in the bumper...then the extra little bit of protection is still...almost not effective at all because it doesent covrer much of anything.

 

I hope they've gotten better than they used to be.

 

It's very common, recalibration is required for height changes. The adaptive cruise breaks when the nose is up from payload or towing too. All the nanny features require a learning of their baseline to avoid false positives, so when something is clearly up they just turn off entirely.

 

I really liked mine on my 1st gen when they had all the camp gear weight on them, however there were others who bought nearly the exact same time who either couldn’t carry any weight or they refused to soften at all under load.
