Tacoma World has take advantage of my bank account once again. Trail gear adapter set ordered from poly performance for $686. Cheapest I’ve seen since I started looking about a year ago. Been lurking on this thread on and off for about the same amount of time. Think gears, and triple sticks will have to wait until Black Friday. I’m actively looking for a V6 Manual jshift tacoma case in good shape for when I do my dual case. I have the electric shift. Would be willing to trade straight across for one in comparable condition.

 

If you ever get to Cali I have a J-shift sitting in my garage. I was keeping it as a spare but 3 years of zero issues with my crawl box has me re-thinking that. lol

placed an order with Low range for a crawlbox unit, and called to find out they are back ordered because they don't have any cases to build them up with.

Asked if they could use the advanced adapters housing instead, but they said that advanced adapters is back ordered on that as well apparently.

Looks like I'll be playing the waiting game until some cores come in.

I'll keep an eye out for a case local to me. Although I've already looked around and only been able to find forward shift cases or top shift ones that they want like $400 for.

 

Why not buy the TG adapter and built the unit yourself using MC 4.7 gear with a used rf1a case? It'll be cheaper with better gear then buying an assembled TG crawlbox

 

Do you need just the reduction housing itself or the entire case so you can use the gears out of it? I have just the reduction housing that I’d be willing to sell.

 

I would, but I can't find any rf1a cases around me that aren't absurdly priced.

I just need the reduction housing section. Would buy my own gears. Using my OEM chain case for the rear half. I'll send you a PM.

 

Are MC gears really that much stronger than TG ones? I would love to run MC stuff, but I would also have to swap in a 23 spline v6 chain case since i'm a 4 cyl with 26 spline t-case.
I haven't really ever heard of anyone breaking the TG gears or having issues with them other than fretting on the inputs/couplers.
It seems that they have since changed their design of their 23 spling 4.7 gear so that they no longer have the "neck-down" part which was a weak link.

 

Not to freak you out, but I blew up a 5spd transmission because the rear seal failed and gradually dumped all its fluid into the crawl box, which was also venting small amounts of fluid out eventually the trans ran out of fluid and it went boom one day.

My crawl box also seems to vent fluid if I over fill it, once it hits a certain level it stops. With my lefty/dual combo that's 2qts, it's technically supposed to hold 3, but it vents until it hits 2...

 

What knobs are y'all running? I have triples going in and dont like the knobs it came with.

 

Is there a bolt on crawlbox option for Gen 3 MT?

-Yes, better design Total Spline and stronger material (chromo), built in oiling features.
-Not better if they are not in stock.

-Swapping the input on the tcase is an option too. Pending you have found a v6 chain case that is in worse shape than your factory 4cyl.

-You'll find a few on different threads where the input has snapped at the "neck down" area of the gears. So it happens, however even alot of heavier and more HP 2nd gens seems to be successful with TG 4.7s.

-TG still uses the factory style neck down even on 4.7s, unless they just started this change?

 

Thanks for the reply. After doing some more research, it seems that I should be able to run MC gears with TG adapters & the TG coupler.
@theesotericone runs this way and I confirmed with yotamasters as well who have setup many first gens in this configuration with no problems. So I'm going to give it a shot.

My MC 4.7 gears showed up today. I just need to source some more internal rf1a parts now. Was able to get the shift fork & linkage through yotamasters, but still need some other stuff like the shift collar, coupler bearing, pocket bearing, & the snap rings that go on the outside of the case for the counter shaft and input shaft.

They have unetched ones as well in variety of ano colors.

 

I wouldn't run tg coupler with mc gears. The spline cut are different. I've seen tg coupler not fitting mc gears or it'll fit and have too much play.
