Been having a whirring/whining noise coming from somewhere going down the road between 55/60mph. I can recreate the sound with the throttle so I suspect ring and pinion or pinion bearing. I hope I’m wrong. Taking it to get checked out today.

Does it only do it if your giving it a little bit of throttle? Usually pinion bearings will be heard on acceleration and deceleration.

Right around 60ish I will get a high pitched whirring noise. But only if I feather the throttle ever so slightly. This is a common issues on the 3rd gen trucks.

It only does it on acceleration and when you first let off the throttle then it’s gone. Mine is a 2nd gen

    How many miles?

Is there enough oil in the front diff, transfer case, and rear diff?

Can you tell where the noise is coming from? Front end, rear end, somewhere else?

If your shop can't pinpoint the source you may want to find one that has something like a Steelman Wireless ChassisEAR. It uses attachable remote microphones to locate noises. Unfortunately they cost around $230 so not something you'd want to pick up yourself as a tool.

They said the noise wasn’t the rear end that it’s an issue that Toyota has. I don’t know that I believe this.
