Are you running the new 5.29 test tune?

The first test tune I got increased the limiter to about 89 on the dash. The second test tune I have only gotten one chance to try out for a top speed run and it locked me at 70mph. I haven’t had an opportunity to try to make another “high speed” run since then.

Nope I was running an old tune from last year. I dont remember which tune it was. There was no 5.29 tunes out yet. I just now came around to flashing it with the 2.0 87 5.29 35" tune last week lol!

Could it take several thousand miles for 2.0 final to fully learn that I'm using the highest octane fuel (89 on the 85-89 tune)? I've been on 2.0 final base AT since it came out, and while it was smooth, it felt like a step backwards from the previous betas in terms of power, shifting, and overall efficiency. Then just a week or two ago, my gas mileage went up a good 2.5 mpg, and the truck got much better about only dropping to 5th instead of 4th when climbing moderate hills on the interstate. I got 20.5 mpg both ways on a 3 hour trip in the eastern mountains with a WW boat up top, and yesterday on a 1 hour trip to a HS soccer game, the truck got 24 mpg both ways (mixed highway and hilly back roads) and almost never touched 4th gear on the highway.

So did it take this long for the octane learning algorithm to finally decide it can give me maximum ignition advance? The only other thing I can think of would be that there was a whole bunch of winter blend fuel already in production when the pandemic hit, and with most people driving very little, it took until now for the refineries to use it all up and switch back to summer blend.

I could be making this up, but i started putting 93 in mine after i flashed 2.0 sfob on the MT and it took 1500 miles or so for the power to settle in IMO. It feels like a different truck than it did right after i flashed it.

I agree that it takes a while. Ever since 1.03 I have noticed a drastic difference in the performance and consistency after 800-1000 miles. I do not believe for one second the tune is settled after 300 miles.

Having said that. The longer the trip the better it settles and behaves. I flashed once and drove 400 straight miles and by the end of that trip it was behaving completely different from the start in a good way.

Do you think that would be applicable if someone flashed the new tune and then immediately towed a 5000lb trailer from CO to ID? I worry about flashing and having it learn under towing conditions

Best performance my truck ever had was flashing 2.0 beta then immediately towing my little 1500 pound boat 100 miles round trip. After a month or so it seemed performance degraded a bit. I’ve considered doing exactly what you are thinking as a way to trick the ecu into giving me better performance. Then tow that trailer once a month for an hour or so and consider it preventative maintenance.

I’ve done the same thing, just not as far. Tune performed great after taking the trailer off. If anything it will work better. FYI I live in Idaho. Good choice

I've been "moving" for over 5 years at this point, figured I'd better actually finish the damn thing since someone wants to buy my house here in CO asap lol

sortof stock. 6112/5160, pro wheels and a tune.
for the files- the difference between stock/33/35 is the shift points correct? im on the stock/85/thx tune and with my 265 75s, the 33 tune may be better?
this thread has ADD so its hard to keep on track hahaha

Get out of CO. Beautiful, but land rights are the worst, especially water

Just don’t come to Idaho. It sucks here...social distancing that has been in place for centuries ;)

I'm just returning to my ancestral home, family roots and a piece of property on my mom's side lol. I was born and raised in Alaska. Seriously thinking about putting down permanent roots up in North Idaho though. Need land for my survival school or homestead.
