I saw the JGC issues. My boss bought one. They said that the transmission was never right from the start. It eventually died early and got swapped. Then, the suspension pump went out. One trip riding around on the bump stops, and they left it at the dealer and got something else.

The Wranglers are simpler and build very differently. I was also looking for an older one. Still, I am very happy where I ended up.

I cannot see the new merger helping with anything.

yeah you have to go back 14 years to find one. They are standard now with the engine.

The reman trans will be fine and will last the life of the truck. Consider it a fluke or if you are one of "those people" who when something happens to their vehicles they trade it in immediately go ahead and do it.... the next owner will get a good vehicle that will last a long time

Yeah I'd have no problem with anything on my truck's power train to go out before 60k miles is up. After 60k miles...bitter.

In ‘99 my Dad got burned by a Chrysler transmission which failed the day after he bought the truck new with 50 miles on it. Of course it happened while I was driving it o_O In his case the dealer replaced the Valve Body. That and other issues that truck had (which I ended-up buying from him a couple of years later) have kept from buying a Chrysler product ever since.

To the OP, be happy your dealership is replacing the transmission without your having to make repeated trips or spending hours on the phone fighting over whether or not this failure was a warranty issue or not. Some members have not had great experiences at dealerships.

Right. Looking on the bright side, 37k miles is so much better than 67k miles.

This seems like sound advice and likely the direction I'll go. If they are willing to make me an amazing deal on a Tundra I'll take, but I'm not anticipating that.
Most likely I'll get the remanufactured tranny and I'll continue driving my tacoma.

You can demand whatever you want but they would just laugh at you, they are only obligated to replace the transmission, that's what warranties are for.

Mine went out at 99k and I was given a brand new one. Maybe it depends on the dealership and whats available?

I'm certainly not someone that would look at this situation and believe I'm in a position to "demand" anything beyond what the dealership is already doing.

That is good to hear, you can always try having a friendly talk with them about the situation. If you mention that you lost faith in the truck with such an early failure they may give you an extended warranty,

If I would have tuned my vehicle, any chance that would have had any impact on either preventing/postponing this from happening to the transmission? I assume no.

Hard to say unless you find out what exactly failed in the transmission, and you won't so as Joey Tribbiani says, it's a moo point.

My guess is a bad solenoid in the valve body and unlike transmissions of old they're not a serviceable part by dealer techs.

No but argue for the extended platinum warranty as said on the next quote

IDK about the TW part but this is what I mean

GM engines in the older Colorados puke around 70K tops, ask me how I know..which is "normal" per GM

Top of my skull my friend had a 06 or 07 Sport manual. My neighbor has a 16 or 17 manual as well.

Makes sense for the overall volume of cars to fix but still sucks. Different animal but CD players I've recently learned are the same, nobody repairs them. My Pioneer I bought for about $300 stopped reading discs. I was told the nearest place is New York (a few hours from me) and it's $100 just to open it up to diagnose. Damn, nothing is made to last anymore..

Out of curiosity I ran it through Carvana and they are quoting me $27,792. If I was going to trade it in, do you think the dealership would give me more than this?

LKQ is a salvage yard and the parts they sell are sometimes good and sometimes bad. Ive had a few times where in insurance company only wanted to pay for used parts to fix a vehicle. Once they sent over 3 jeep tailgate to the shop they all were to the shop owner to rusted to use for a good repair. He got them to pay for new. Last time it was a door and same thing the vehicle was older so used parts made sense. LKQ sent a good door on the first try that time. Nothing bad every time about used parts. Just need to know to inspect then to be sure they are acceptable.

I probably will see what kind of trade in they'll give me on a Tundra.
