In stock form and while on the ground what's the distance between the lower control arm and its bumpstop?

I guessed it to be about 1 3/8" but I'd rather get the accurate measurement. I didn't have a tape measure when I looked.

I've seen several posts saying something like..."the best approach to a 2" lift in the front is 5100's set at zero and OME 885's". Wouldn't putting a 2" spacer on top of the stock springs with 5100's set a zero essentially be the same ride? I'd think the ride position of the piston would be the same so the shock would be running through the exact same motion with both setups?

When compressing the 885s, the bump stop will/should make contact before the shock bottoms out, protecting the shock from damage.

With the spacers, you risk bottoming out the shock. The bump stop is now 2 inches farther away and you didnt change the spring rate or anything to help keep the (stock) spring from compressing too much

I crawled under a stock truck that was parked behind a liquor store. Hahahaha. The gap is actually at an angle, with 1" being at its narrowest gap.

Mine has a 3" front lift and is at 1 3/4" without being corrected yet. That's kind of why I was asking, particularly in this thread. Lol

The "short end of the stick" is:
1/2" spacer= 1" lift and requires 1/4" adjustment of the bump stop.
1" spacer= 2" lift and requires 1/2" adjustment of bump stop.

*note: the stock bump stops are not adjustable.

Thanks for the info....the bottoming out doesn't make sense to me, will need to learn the suspension better to get my head around how that may happen. But the spring rate does make sense, the OME's would be designed for greater compression (travel) vs the stock. Would need to ride in both setups to feel the difference.

Why are ARB front bumpers so popular?
I get that they're the only crash-tested bumper with safety in mind, already come in black for a decent price, and look good.

But they stick out forward so far compared to everything else.
Doesn't that ruin the approach angle for off-roading?

How do you align your Taco's?

Google says to always adjust caster first. But shouldn't caster come secondary?
With the lower control arm bolts, if you set caster to within spec, there isn't any adjustment left to get camber set.
So you end up (at least lifted) with positive camber, wheels tilting out.

I thought caster is less important?
Camber is probably important for handling and tire wear.

Whereas caster just leans the hub forward or rear inside the wheel well, and some people even set their caster (forward?) to prevent rubbing because it moves the wheel forward to run a bigger tire

I don't see any upgraded cam bolts on the market (stock adjustment has a range of 1.5 degrees)
and am trying to avoid dropping $500+ on aftermarket UCA's

Whats the point to turning on the climate control without pushing the a/c button?

I'm guessing A/C activates the belt-driven A/C compressor, using a blower motor fan to blow air that's cooled by refrigerant.
Which probably reduces engine power at the time, and reduces MPG, blowing colder air.

Whereas without the A/C button is probably Toyota's version of an "ECON" mode where it does not do all that, and just runs the blower motor fan to blow air, that may or may not be as cold, depending on what temperature it is outside that it sucks air in from.
I'm not sure if Recirc button changes that, whose idea is to recirculate air inside the cabin rather than suck in from outside.
Which might be to avoid smells from outside, or to work the A/C less hard by recirculating already cold air inside the cabin rather than forcing the A/C to try and somewhat cool down very hot air outside in summer

as for why it has that function, I'm not sure

on another car I'd use it sometimes if it wasn't too hot to at least have some breeze in the cabin without kicking on the A/C compressor causing the engine to feel less powerful/lug and clutch pedal bite to start feeling weird
for some reason on any stickshift vehicle I've had, when A/C is on, it seems to mess with clutch pedal feel and engagement/bite point making it harder to drive
making it less stressful to use A/C on a long cruise in 6th gear at highway, vs city stop and go
vehicles with a powerful engine and automatic trans probably don't have that problem

Can you dry a wet cat in the microwave?

Or should it be spun dry attached to the radiator fan?

the weather channel crap is useless. It gives you the "current weather" from a town you drove through 40 miles/40 minutes ago
