http://www.hypertech-inc.com/vehicle-results.aspx?AAIAID=486254 Anyone have any experience with this product? I can't seem to find any biased opinions on the tow version but did find one for the off-road one, (link below) we all know the towing characteristics of the Tacoma and I'm really looking for a solution to this problem, I tow a dune buggy and it really struggles and shifts (a lot) just to maintain hwy speed. any suggestions are appreciated.

I don't think this will help with your towing/shifting issue. This just spoofs the accelerator pedal signal to the ECU with various curves of aggression... Can't really imagine this being of much use on our trucks as there just isn't that much extra power laying around to play with. For towing, and for the sake of your tranny, tow in 4th gear, not "D", whenever you're struggling with the load.

Id stay away from throttle control devices. They don't do anything except control the amount you have to push your foot down. Really a waste of money.

The best advice i can give you is to regear your truck to at least 4.88 gears.

I was thinking the same thing, I was wondering how this could help with towing, I've yet to find any explanation on how this product could help with that. I'm not sure what effect re-gearing would have on the other systems of the truck IE stabliatrac, ABS and traction control.

What size tires are you running? Re-gearing will help put you back in the power band if you are running larger tires. If your issue is only occasional towing performance, realizing these truck are by no means overpowered, try pulling those troublesome bits of road in 4th gear. This effectively re-gears you temporarily by dropping you out of OD and raising RPMs. Your torque converter will thank you for it. If you are shifting in an out of OD at load your TC is getting smoking hot - and that will eventually cost you a new tranny!

I'm running 265/75r16, shouldnt need to regear for that and yes, 4th gear most of the time but the rpm's just a bit high at 75mph. :burnrubber:
