Pretty cool...Dogfish Head Brewery's founder, Sam Calagione, details his company's operations.

 

Yeah, watching. Pretty good, thought it would be a little more home-brew like, not craft/micro brew. I became interested when my older brother started brewing a few years ago, and he does make some tasty brews. He brewed yesterday, a mild brown English. He keeps four on tap at any given time.

 

^ My step-brother is into brewing too...he has a ridiculous (i.e., nice) set up; he started a batch last time I was at his place (an ale...he said it would be a quick turnaround)...I haven't tried it yet, but I am looking forward to it.

You should watch "Beer Wars"...it's about craft/micro brewers vs. the big breweries. Good documentary.

 

this is an awesome show! brewing some beer tommorrow and putting one of my beers that i made two months ago into my keg!

 

Here is a couple of crappy cell pics from a month or so ago, I "think" a Irish Red Ale in the tun. And the wort in the fermenter is a "Hell or High Watermelon", white wheat with watermelon puree'.

 

watermelon puree would be interesting to try in a beer. its got an intersting color for beer to. i wonder what SRM that would be haha

 

It, (the watermelon brew) was OK, not awesome, as far as color, it did loose all of of it's color after a few days fermenting. He claimed he would not brew it again. As stated before, he keeps four on tap at any given time, three provens, and one new experimental. However his Pumpkin Spice, (made with sweet potatoes) is my very favorite.

 

sounds good. i love making fall brews.

 

It is good, like a pumpkin pie at around 7%, lots of allspice and nutmeg..

 

Here are a few more shots. He has gotten into culturing his own yeast, which starts a few days before brewing, (he is a microbioloist/pharmacist) and grows several strains.

 

Watched the show too, but didn't think it was all that great.

But I might give it another shot next week.....

i consider myself a beer fan. snob sounds too strong a word.

the show wasn't that good, just another reality show. i was hoping that they showcase a different brewery each week, but the most i gather is that it follows dogfish head. nothing againt dogfish head, their beers are awesome. the show content isn't what i expected.

 

Love that Dog Fish head beer, a little pricey though.

 

No that wasn't it. I thought some of the people on the show were a little weird, and the rap parts were gay.
I don't want to hear their rap, or watch them "rap", no thanks.
I'm more interested in their operation, and the process.

Do they really think that 35+ to 55 year old people are really going to enjoy watching all of that? No.

But like I said, I'll give it another chance.

 

well i can agree that them rapping was really gay and stupid.

i think that if they did a show on their operation and the process of making beer they would only have two shows. I'm a brewer myself and the process is very simple. There is a scientific side to it but if they got into that they would just lose everyone when rambling off about IBUs, hop utilization, water chemistry, etc . but on the other hand i think thats why Dogfish is doing this show because thier beer is so unique from anyone elses. They do things to their beer that no else tries which makes it interesting to see how their process differs from the norm.

i think where they're going with this show is every week they will show how they came up with a recipe for one of there beers, and how they travel around the world look for ingredients. not this is how you make beer
