USB charging port

New 2020 SR 4x4 Taco owner here...
The USB charging ports. I'm still trying to figure out why Toyota put them in the bottom of the center console box. They couldn't have made it more difficult actually...
But I notice there looks to be 2-3 'blanks' on the dash .. Like right next to the 'media' USB port.. Where USB charging ports could be.. EASY to get to ...
Does Toyota have factory USB snap-in panels that can go in those blanks?
I'm sure there's some aftermarket something .. But my rig is brand new, and the last thing I wanna do is start tearing the dash apart or drilling holes in it ...(There's always some hidden screws you don't know about, right? LOL!) ... I'd just rather pay someone to do it, IF there is such a thing.
P.S. ... I don't wanna use the cigarette lighter port to have the big 'multi-port' outlet plugged into it. I've got my radar detector plugged into that, and don't want a big 'box' plugged into it, or another adapter flopping around...

 

Bacon fryer! Wait wrong thread. Either way the dash has to come apart to wire everything. It's not that hard. Better off doing it yourself. Some skeezeball isn't gonna take half as much care as you would.

 

I'd prefer the ports were in the back of the console for the kids in back seat.

 

Tearing apart the dash is pretty easy. Not sure if they fixed the usb amp draw (i.e. super low In dash and basically useless wireless pad charger) in the 20 but I highly recommend a cig lighter usb or opening dash and rewiring a hotter line to the usb.
As for the one in the center console just put in a cable and leave it for when you need it. Or a small drill holes is possible to get it low to either seatbelt side.

 

Aftermarket is your easiest bet, as they are already sized for Toyota switch blanks. I bought one off of Amazon for roughly 10 bucks and installed it in my trailer. The only downside is that I had to first disassemble it to clip those stupid LED lights. Had it gone in my truck I would have also sanded the decals off the face plate. But it puts out a decent charge.

 

I know, I know ... I totally get what you mean. Hey, I'm 65 and have taken dozens and dozens of dash's apart. It's just a little bit different when something is brand-BRAND new .. LOL!
If I knew Toyota made a snap-in USB charging plate that hooked up to somewhere in the factory wiring harness, I'd go for it.
I just don't wanna have everything torn apart and in the middle of it, all of a sudden it turn into a 'Uh-Oh ... What do I do now?' kinda' thing.

 

I feel like there's enough info on this forum to get you through it. I thought ktjo4x4 made Plug and play extensions for the USB ports. U know anything about that @tonered ?

 

No need to take the dash apart to install one. You can pop out one of the blanks in the center by putting duct tape on it, making a loop and giving it a good pull. Then you can route the wires through the hole to the drivers side fuse box and just use a "add a fuse" there. Takes 10 minutes and the only tools you need is a 10mm for the ground and duct tape to pull the switch blank out.

 

Yeah. Flipping bits in the ECU is nothing as risky as flashing a TSB. Yet, hundreds of us have made it through.

I don't know. The DAH is the first part that I am buying from her.

Installing both of mine was pretty easy though.

The left one is constant power tapped into the tow harness connector and grounded at the ground point almost directly behind the switch panel.

The right one reuses the stock power port spade connectors. I just had to disassemble the stock plastic part of the connector. Very easy also. This is the first time that I took it apart to use as a keyed power tap for the front camera:

Hahahaha! One of my favorite tools. On the bike side, I use them to keep from dropping valves when swapping closer shims.

I need that sweet one that you have since I have to wrap mine in electrical tape.

 

Y'know, the more I think about it, you may have the best suggestion.
I really like to keep things 'neat & tidy' .. and if a USB panel that fit in a blank were really easy to snap in and plug-in to something left in the wiring harness, I'd do that .. BUT ...
I don't have a phone, but the wife does. So the port in the console? I don't really need for myself. I can just buy another $3.00 cable and just have it hooked up to the factory port and leave it in the utility box. Don't know about earlier years, but on the 2020, at least Toyota thought it through... As in there's a little channel molded into the plastic on the box, so you can run the cord outside and still close the lid.

 

All 3rd Gens have that.

To no scrap the valve stem. The clamp holds it just above the valve seals and allows just enough sproing in the rocker to slide the shim down and yank the half rings.
