Speaker Recomendations?

New Taco SR 4x4 owner here...
So anyway, while researching on what I wanted to buy ... I kept reading on different sites (Like Consumer Reports/JD Powers/etc) about how the factory stereo system ... Was not all that great. I didn't put much weight into those reviews, because one man's floor is another man's ceiling, and everyone's opinion about stereo equipment will ALL be different.
Anyway, I found the factory stereo to be quite GOOD in my opinion. I'm not gonna complain at all about it.
(I'm not one of those guys who needs a 3,000 watt sub, blowing out the windows and irritating everyone else in a 3-mile radius when stopped at a light.. LOL!)
So, looks like I have dash speakers (Guessing 4"? ... Don't really care about those..)
6x9's in the doors ... They really sound quite good... Zero probs with those...
And 6 3/4" (Why not the standard 6 1/2", IDK) in the rear.
I'd like to have a bit more Oomph!/bass in the rears.
Any recommendations for replacements that aren't stupid-crazy $$? Say, $200.00 or less?

 

I think most will say upgrading the rears is kinda pointless. I have morel tempo's in the front and it's like having an 8" sub in the truck. I love those speakers, especially with the tweeters. Work well for me.

Upgrading rears will do almost nothing. I think someone tested here and they get like 5 watts. Order is usually tweeters, door speakers and small 8 inch powered sub like the Kicker hideaway.

I have the Kicker tweeters, Infiniti Kappa door speakers powered by an Alpine Powerpack amp and 8 inch Kicker hideaway.

The lack of "oomf" from the rears is not due to the speakers, but rather the headunit does not send much power to the rear speakers. Changing them out would give you zero change in "oomf"

What you need to do is add a small powered subwoofer if you are generally happy with the rest of the factory system.

 

Well, the reason I ask is ... And let me say I'm a geezer (65) and have installed many stereos in everything from sub-compacts to full size vans over a few decades ...
I've learned that you get the best 'separation' with the front door speakers, and the best bass out of the rear ones.
I'm not expecting anything near 'Thundering Bass' out of 6 3/4" speakers basically parked right behind my head .. (The 6x9's in the door do a very decent job of delivering bass, while not blowing windows out.. LOL!)
I just thought there's gotta be something a little better for the rears.

 

Ahhhhh, OK, I get ya. That explains why playing with the fader didn't do much. It's becoming clear now..
My son has a 2018 Subaru Forester and put one of those small self-powered Under-the-Seat subs in his rig. I was pretty amazed at how small it was, but added a whole lot more 'OOmphf!' Maybe that's the way to go? (I have the Access Cab, so not a lot of room in the back..)

 

I think the rears are just too quite, so to do anything you'd have to add an amp. I have kickers in my rear and I barley notice em

 

Many of the powered ones can actually fit under the drivers seat (not the passenger seat though)

FWIW, I did the Subaru tweets, then Kicker CS fronts, and then added the 6-3/4” CS in the rear. It sounded much better but as you say, no balls. I was going to get the hideaway sub but decided to go with the Kicker key amp out of curiosity and much lower cost and great reviews. The result is amazing. After doing the calibration the rears came alive and I definitely don’t need a sub but I’m kind of an old fart too - 55!
Mounted kicker key under passenger seat for easy access to gains and dip switches and that left the area under the drivers seat open in case I wanted to add the sub later.

 

Not sure if the SR is the same as the O.R., but I just replaced the tweeters in the dash, and added and underseat 8" powered Sub, and it sounds fantastic. I still dont see a need to replace the door speakers.

Especially the rear speakers as I don't sit there, so you barely hear them as it is.

 

I am getting all the stuff together to upgrade mine.
Kicker 6x9s kicker 6.75, I ordered the Kicker subaru tweeter upgrade. I have an 8" compact powered sub from my last vehicle I'm getting a new amp wiring kit for so I can install that in the truck. I really think it will be good enough for me.
My old Jeep had an Alpine stereo with Kenwood speakers and the sub, no tweeters and no other amps. I was happy with that so this should work. I'm getting old too at 46 but I still like tunes but don't need a stereo like I had in my 20s .

 

Hey, I wanna thank everyone who took time to reply It seems the general consensus is 'Replacing the rears won't do much, but if it makes ya feel better...' LOL! But adding a small sub somewhere, will really make it 'pop'. OK, makes perfect sense to me.
Like I say, I think the factory stereo sounds quite good ... Just thought it needed something juuuust a little bit more. I could easily live with it as is. Being as this is the first new truck I've bought in 20 years and plan on keeping it till the wheels fall off ... You know how it is. You want everything exactly to your liking.

 

Something you might consider, find someone in your area that has a aftermarket set of speakers and sub. Ask for a demo. You can have them turn the subwoofer off to see if just new speakers will do the trick for you, then have them turn the subwoofer on and see if its something you would like.

Most people who have systems in their trucks are dying for someone to want a demo. We crave the thought of someone being interested in the thing we spent so much time building only to have no one ever see it or hear it.

 

I spliced the rear speaker wires to ad to my Subwoofer. Even more reason not to replace the rear speakers.

Also make sure the door speakers you replace are high efficiency, or the OE amp wont be loud enough to get much benefit from them.

 

I have the exact same setup (tweeters, hideaway, powerpack) except I went with Kicker 46CSC6934 in the front and

Kicker 46CSC674 in the rear. Sounds great.

 

I'm probably going to go to a local stereo shop and have them install a small sub under the seat. Where I live the 'go-to' place is 'Car Toys' (NE WA. state) ... Not that I couldn't do it myself, but I'm guessing the 'techs' there have probably done a ga-zillion installs and can do it in their sleep and not Eff it up. Hopefully.
Yes, I'll pay more, but I'll have something to fall back on if things go sideways. The last major stereo install/upgrade I did was in a full-size Dodge van a couple years ago. Pulling seats and pulling up/reattaching carpet to run cables and wires so they'd be totally hidden and not even noticeable was a 2-day job that I really have no desire to do again. Not that I couldn't, but I'm old and lazy and don't want to break anything.. LOL!

 

Im in the middle of my audio install and im going on 3 weeks. I only work on it during my days off. Its taken me much longer than i thought. Between pulling the seats and panels, sound deadening, running the wires, and mounting everything, i dont know if i will go to this extreme again......
