Changed rear diff fluid on 2020 with 575 miles

After reading a bit here on TW and on Bobistheoilguy site, I decided to change the rear diff fluid on my new 2020 Tacoma 2.7 4x2. I drained out approx. 2.8 qts of the factory fluid and added exactly 3 qts of

$30 Mobil 1 75w-90 Synthetic Gear Lube - 1 Quart (Pack of 2)

Mobil 1 75w-90 to bring it right up to the bottom of the fill port. The fluid was a little bit dirty as you can see in the pics. The magnetic drain plug had a little bit of that fine ferrous mud on it. No big metallic pieces that I saw. I doubt this change was necessary, but glad I did it as it was a tiny bit low from the factory, and good I'd think to get the break-in material out of circulation.

 

And to think I put just shy of 400K on an F150 with the original diff fluid. Should have sent a sample to Blackstone before I traded her in. lol

 

Yeah, I had the differential go at about 120,000 on my 1996 Suburban about 15 years ago and wasted a couple grand to replace it. I guess you got lucky.

 

You never know.
One thing is for certain though, you are the man I want to buy my next used truck from, and I mean that!

 

Good feel free to do whatever you want and don't listen to anyone here, half the 3rd gen owners already sold their trucks to carvana before 30k miles. And BITOG is a great site.

 

Thanks, I just figured some here would be interested to see what the diff fluid looks like when it's still new. But if someone is going to sell it before 30,000 miles, then why bother.

 

For some reason the front differential fluid on my tundra always looked horrible when i did a change at 30k compared to how clean the rear always appeared at the same interval.

 

I changed mine at 8k no regrets looked and smelled like crap
