Washington Snow****

Wow, I woke up early this morning because I have an orthodontics appt. and boy was it white outside. My truck covered in fresh snow so I said what the heck I can make it to my appt. Its in Puyallup and 26 mins from where I live. I drove up for about 3 minutes and there was a whole bunch of cars and truck stuck ahead. I was losing traction so I said fuck it I'm turning around and on my way back home which isn't so far away since I only drove for 3 minutes I told her that hey I might just have to trade you in for a 4x4. Well Washington can be Treacherous sometime when it snows. Last year there was no snow at all. The PreRunner might just have to go...I have not tried loading my bed with weight.

 

my pre runner loses traction some what easily when the ground is just wet from rain ( sometimes fun, but a little bit too easily for my liiking)

kinda wish i got a 4x4, but can't complain since i live in san diego and it rarely rains....

 

I live in Redmond but work at the Port in Seattle. Took me an hour and half to cross the 520 bridge and get to work. Brutal. Looks like it's going to be rougher down south than up here.

Just in case I threw some sandbags in the bed and made sure my gear was in the truck box.

I'm going from a 4Runner to a Tacoma so I'm curious to see how she does in the snow/ice.

My truck does great in rain but snow is another story.

 

Hey at least you have 4x4 to help with traction and also I'm sure the weight will help out a lot.

 

Where can I buy sandbags from? How much do they cost? About how many lbs. do I need in the bed?

 

you can get sandbags at home depot or lowes... 3 in the bed would probably work. that's what most of my friends with 2 wheel drive trucks use. dunno on cost (never bought any myself )

Oh I love this snow! I'm not afraid to drive in it, but I am afraid of other people driving... I think I'd cry if someone crashed into my yota Some guy in his honda was tail gating me down this hill, I wanted to get out and be like really guy, really?!?

 

I actually do Love snow but not when I'm driving in a RWD. 4x4 + SNOW = Fun Fun.

havent had my toyota up in the snow yet, its 2wd ... prev truck was a 99 mazda 2wd with shit tires on it and it did ok, i went pretty slow cause it didnt have abs or nothing so it would slide all over the place.

Never did use tire chains, california makes you put em on when the road is clear and im like the hell with that and just tell em the trucks 4wd

 

I raided my girls' sandbox and made 2 x 60lb bags. I think they were pissed but hopefully they'll get over it.

Couple inches on the ground here in Castle Rock,,still falling right now,,big wet sloppy flakes, melting somewhat as it hits.

Dont buy sandbags/rear weight, it's to easy and cheap to make your own. old truck inner tubes filled with river sand, ends zip tied or muffler clamped. Les Schwab for the refuse/blown out inner tubes,,or any truck tire shop.

5 gal buckets with sand filled in them, strapped to the corner hold downs.

Go to a commerial truck repair shop and see if the have any truck brake drums that they are throwing away, those are usually 75lbs per, get 2 or 4. chain them to the corner holds. (best deal because they are usually aboslutely free and quick to deal with).

I wouldn't give on the 2wd just yet. They do just fine in the snow. Throw some weight in the back and TIRES TIRES TIRES!!! They make all the difference in the world. I have a 4wd and only use it to get in and out of parking spaces, I never travel in 4wd. I've got a double cab and typically put about 180 - 270 lbs in the back (2 or 3 tractor weights at 90 lbs/ea). Make sure you place them on top of or in front of the rear axle.

 

Or you could just go to lowes and pick up 60 lb sand bags for like 3 bucks, way less hassle

 

I doubt a truck would be an upgrade in the snow.
I have a DC and I think the extra weight of the cab centered btw the axles helps with traction.
The ground clearance is a benefit.
Tires are where it's at re snow.
M/T's and mudders are stupid in snow.
Narrow tires....Small treadblocks and sipes work.
See you on 520 tonight heading into Redmond....getting on The Plateau should be entertaining....Lexus parking lot!

 

Yeah I just got done doing that. It was $3.85 x4 at 16 someting including tax. Did I do this right? Correct me if I'm wrong. Sandbag placement that is.
