My point exactly. If a digital app gauge is inaccurate because there is no MAP then an analog gauge has to be incorrect as well without a MAP being physically added.

This is the magical question I pose to the group.

Agreed. So the HP tuner is changing the formula of what is being calculated but is likely measuring the same items just at a different value.

Even with these gauges, unless you added a MAP to the engine it is still only doing a calculation based on combined values from the ECU. No different than the speedo and why our reading become incorrect post-lift/tire upgrades.

I was merely asking if anyone had tried to isolate the formula used to do this calculation and made the necessary changes to make it accurate was all. I’ve already played with the speed equation and the AT Temp to get it accurate. Should be able to do the same for boost

Can also mess with the formulas to ACTUALLY test all of the CAI’s vs stock to see if the air temp coming in is actually colder or changes the flow rate.

True but what is that boost measuring? It would not be the boost from the S/C. Our ECU is not measuring S/C boost. I would get reading on that even when I did not have a S/C. Would be interesting if it was doing some formula to assume but it has no way to know you are boosted or not. Might make more sense if the car has a S/C or turbo from the get go

Sure it does. It did a 400+ Scan check of applicable PIDs available on my engine as one of the options when you get to playing with it. It absolutely could detect a S/C. Especially with a TRD tune on the ECU.

Whether or not it did, that I can’t answer without some more research but it definitely could have the potential to detect a blower, especially on one that is a manufacturer recognized S/C set up versus custom.

well curious to see the result. it picked up boost even when I did not have a S/C which I thought was funny. Def is reading something but exactly what it is reading im curious.

Quench area decreases right. But I've heard compensating with a thicker gasket isn't always necessarily a "good thing" with more quench area and possibility for detonation. That sometimes the thicker gaskets do more harm than good but MLS gaskets may have solved that problem. (Doubt I can find it anymore, but i remember a comparison of aftermarket headgaskets and one of the main telltale features was more robust sealing around the cylinder ring). I told the shop it was a OE refresh and they agreed it was no issue after looking at the mating surface. Using Felpro Permatorque MLS btw

@nudavinci64 your TRD/speedhut gauges look really cool! Wish I had seen those. I like the subtle aftermarket look with analog sweepers.

All we are referring to is replacing what was machined off, with head gasket material to get back to "stock."

Obviously consideration of how bad things are prior to doing any of the work must be taken into account.

Pulley and cam gears on the way. Hopefully I can get the both installed next week while on vacation.
