If you look at the numbers all Toyota sales are down across the board, some categories down 36% yoy. Toyota cut production in the Spring, so there's just fewer vehicles.

Hey guys. Been strolling through here looking at some pricing. Wondering what everyones input is... I'm going to be ordering a 2021 TRD off road with packages. The MSRP looks pretty dang high. This price is what Toyotas website says after I build it, and what the dealer has initially quoted me. Was hoping someone can chime in on a few questions...
As I am going to be pre ordering one, do I have less negotiating power, seeing as its not on the lot, and they have to order it.
Should I expect to pay the full MSRP since I am ordering a brand new one as soon as they are being launched?

Details of quote are as follows

    1) 2021, TRD Off-road, dbl cab, Auto, 6ft bed, Army green
    2) Base MSRP : $37,890
    3) Packages: $5070 TRD Premium off road package with options. Leather heated seats, moon roof, Tech package, led lights)
    4) Add ons: None
    5) MSRP before handling fees : $42,960
    6) MSRP with handing fees : $44,055

Seems really high as I got a 2017 TRD OR with tech package OTD for like 36.5 a few years ago.... You think there's room to bring a 2021 6ft bed TRD OR with the premium off road package + tech package down to like 38k before taxes?

I want to be optimistic but probably not. Even $38k pre-COVID would have been a decent discount. Ultimately it depends on stock and sales in your area. Dealers in certain regions are willing to discount, while many are at MSRP take it or leave it pricing.

Also, if you’re saying that you’re getting a $5000 package that you didn’t have on the 2017 then there’s the majority of the price difference. You said the 2017 only had the tech package right? I don’t know what it was then but now it’s only a $700 package.

Long time lurker, just ordered mine today. Never thought I'd get a new car, but here I am. Still on the fence instead of buying used...haven't paid but its ordered. Should arrive after 10/1. Is this looking a like a good deal? Going through a fleet manager for my order.

    2. MSRP(before dealer add ons): $38,525

    4. No Add Ons
    5. Price before Tax Title License (TTL) including incentive/rebate: $44,924
    6. Discount 1-(#5/#2)*100=% off MSRP): 16%
    7. Incentive (rebate/customer cash): None, could change after Oct 1st.
    8. Price Out The Door (OTD): $42,049
    9. Trade in vehicle(year, make, model, trim): 2014 Honda Civic 4dr LX
    10. Kelley blue book trade-in value: $7,159

    20 Taco TRD OR 4x4 6 spd MT Cement - 06 Tundra D-cab SR5 4x4 Phantom Grey
    1. 2020 trd off road cement 6spd manual short bed
    2. MSRP(before dealer add ons) $38,113 includes destination charge
    3. Tech package ($770) toyo guard ($699) interior led lighting ($189)
    4. Cost of dealer add ons- lifetime power train warranty (probably a gimmick as it was 3k but has a 3k discount so it washes out), window tint, all weather mats, pinstripe, door cup guard, door edge guard, clear bra on bumper, grill and mirrors. $0.00 ( cost for this was $1,495 and brought msrp up to $39,608 but I started negotiating from line item 2 as the price on the website started @ $38,113. Everything above was a bonus as I had no idea the truck had these items until I went in to test drive it prior to signing the paperwork. All negotiating was done via email as dealer was 2 hours from my house.)
    5. Price before Tax Title License (TTL) including incentive/rebate $34031.21
    6. Discount 1-(#5/#2)*100=% off MSRP) 10.71% (if you include the dealer adds that I did not originally know about then it was 14.08% discount)
    7. Incentive (rebate/customer cash) not sure as my invoice just says "discount" of $4081.79
    8. Price Out The Door (OTD) $37,750. (No money down at all so all TTT and dealer fees included in this number from discount price)
    9. Trade in vehicle(year, make, model, trim) none
    10. Kelley blue book trade-in value N/A
    11. Trade allowance(amount given for trade) none
    12. Date purchased 8/29/20
    13. State purchased florida.
I felt like I got a pretty good deal. Especially when I showed up and it had all the dealer add ons that were not discussed prior to me arriving to the dealership. I wanted to do the tint, clear bra and all weather mats so it instantly saved me atleat 1k! I was going to hold out for a 2021, but went ahead for the 2020. I keep my vehicles for a long time so resale value between the 20 and 21 was not super important since I was buying the 20 at the end of the year. I also opted for financing through navy federal so I managed 2.29% at 72 months which was better than the 2.9% that toyota was offering.

I've been following this thread for a while. I used the "email a ton of dealers" method, emailing dealers near every major city (easy for me to get a flight to) within about an 8 hour drive; from El Paso to Kansas City to Memphis to Houston. Ended up going with a dealer across town (DFW) from me. We agreed to Dealer Invoice -$1500, as they had to order it (I know, change an allocation...) and weren't sure if it'd be a 2020 or 2021. Details:

    1. Year, trim, color, transmission, bed: 2020 TRD OR 6MT DCSB in Cement
    2. MSRP(before dealer add ons): $37,835
    3. Options: LED Headlights and Tech Package (LG & TP)
    4. Cost of dealer add ons- (tint, floor mats, nitrogen, etc): 0
    5. Price before Tax Title License (TTL) including incentive/rebate: 33,347 (includes $150 doc fee)
    6. Discount 1-(#5/#2)*100=% off MSRP): ~12%
    7. Incentive (rebate/customer cash) : $1500 ($1000 customer cash plus $500 military discount)
    8. Price Out The Door (OTD): 35,690
    9. Trade in vehicle(year, make, model, trim): N/A
    10. Kelley blue book trade-in value: N/A
    11. Trade allowance(amount given for trade): N/A
    12. Date purchased: 12 Sep 2020
    13. State purchased: TX

It's not easy, unless you find a dealer willing to show you. I did some searching online and came up with different answers, but they were all within a couple hundred dollars, so that can get you close.

Biggest problem for me was finding a 6MT with LED headlights without the Premium Package. That's why they ended up having to spec it from their allocations.
