    Stock for now.. maybe
Probably wouldn't leave you very much room at all especially if your shell is at cab level. Might be better to just keep spare on top of platform or make a little stash spot in the back where your platform has a cut out made for it. Good luck

Edit.. my bad I thought it read 'a couple inches higher than bed rail' Should have enough room but the more the better

Just measured my tires. 295 75 17 Ridgegrapplers. They sit right at or just below 12”. Which is the interior height of my platform. I originally designed this to hold the tire in the front compartment but then got a good deal on the hitch gate. I’m glad that I didn’t use that compartment because it would have been nearly impossible to get the tire out...haha. But this height platform would accommodate a 12” tire.

Ok I finally got around to building my sleeping platform. I decided to go with two horizontal boards so I could still use the back of my bed. Then I did a drawer under the front board for storage. Super simple design that works for my daily use and camping. \m/

Not a bad deal for a long-bed prebuilt platform, if you're in the SF Bay Area. (not affiliated, just ran across it browsing cl. posted 9/1/20)

Need some advice: I installed at simple platform using two 2x4s across the bed. But, I have Molle panels on the sides (which I had to cut) to allow the rear 2x4 to perch on the truck bed. The problem is that I can't get that board out unless I remove the Molle panel. I would have to cut a lot out of the panel to allow the board to be removed. The other option is to hinge the 2x4 in the middle. Do you think that would work? Other ideas? I want to be able to install and remove the platform fairly easily. Thanks.

Hinge the moll panels by attaching one leaf of each hinge to the bed rail and the other to the panel. Then you can pivot the panel up to remove the boards. Do both sides so you can chose whichever is more convenient at the time.

I think I might find some 2x4 rectangular steel tube cut just short of the Molle panel on one end (Support to Molle) and then sand and shape a 2x4 to slide in and out of the tube. You could achieve what you need by having the Steel tube go through Molle on one end and 2x4 extend out through Molle on the other. To ensure 2x4 doesn’t disappear into tube you could drill out a channel on side of steel and screw a low profile drawer pull into the 2x4 to move it in and out. (Think bolt action). I’ve attached a rough drawing so you can see what’s in my brain...image.jpg

Some good ideas that I hadn't thought of @Pointeman @HawkShot99 @bagleboy. I'll have to give these some thought and then motivate to do it. This weekend I took the platform out so I can haul some stuff; I'll have to make an upgrade before the next install.

    I like this idea.
You could even put it across up higher on top of the little ledge of the shell.
Nice option maybe even make it fit in the molly slots.

I got to thinking again. Your thoughts about the upper ledge is a great idea. If I screw a threaded stud into the 2x4 then i could use a thumb knob to lock it in place... looks like I’ve got another project brewing haha

Spaced off the sides enough you could mount them on horizontal glides so they slide out the back for easy access.

Nice work. I explored the option for running water but wasn’t sure whether I would have a freeze issue. Great design.

I like the idea of a water tank, is that just from an RV or something?
