I don't understand, why doesn't the dealer just eat the cost of a new fuel pump and give you your car back. Then when the new improved pumps come out, have you come back in for the recall pump. Couple hundo in parts and labor seem much cheaper than months of rental fees for the dealer, and you get your truck back...

You should show up to the service bay. Quietly set up a table, maybe some plates, start making a sandwich, and right before someone approaches you asking what you're doing, flip the table and yell "FIX MY FUCKING TRUCK" and then get back into your rental and drive over the flipped sandwich.

But really...makes no sense to me. Have you tried pitching the idea above? Cheaper for the dealer unless toyota themselves is eating the cost of a rental but won't cover the pump?

My bet would be on that too. Toyota manufacturing screwed the pooch, they pay for any expenses the dealer incurs and because of that well...you got transportation right? good enough for us.

Ehh I don't blame you. I would be pretty salty sitting in the same situation. You got insurance with that rental? I think you know where I'm going here lol

I don't get this shit, there has to be something you can sign to get your truck back that takes the liability off of them, it's your truck. This is why I didn't take mine in for the diff leak, until the SA verified parts were in and ready and when I got there, I had her verify before I handed the keys over. They told me the same, if we check it now and it needs a new gasket, we keep it till the part comes in, I said if you do that and give me a loaner, you better insure it, I'm going to beat the hell out of it. She handed me the keys back and said, we'll call you when the parts come in.

Just ran my vin, no safety recalls or campaigns. Is this recall applicable for 2020s or have they just not gotten to them yet?
    Thanks

I don't think 2020's have been involved. May want to check your crawl control if you have it though.

It’s illegal for them to keep your truck if they can’t fix it. That’s your private property.

Well hey, silver lining is that you're not putting miles on your truck. So down the line when you go to sell you may have that low mileage unicorn of a truck. Them resale values and stuff, ya know?

Or hell, sign away your rights. Replace the fuel pump, and sell it to carvana lol

If you have not read through the carvana thread you might wanna do a quick online quote! It's now a running joke on the forums but carvana was (and maybe still is) offering some stupid prices on use tacomas. I did mine and it gave me what I paid back plus a market adjustment where I think I would have actually made 2 or 3k selling to them, but the Denver area is also pretty hot, so ymmv.

My dealer said "anyone who comes in and says I'm afraid to drive mine" gets a loaner on Toyotas dime until it gets the recall pump...but you are on the hook for it sitting on the lot... outdoors probably (change that; for sure outdoors) weathering away until the recall happens. I only have a stutter if I screw up and pull out IN front of someone by mistake and floor it. It does scare the be-jesus out of you when if acts like it's going to stall. But I'm not leaving mine on the lot sitting while they screw around with the recall.

Just talked to my service manager at the dealership. He said Toyota is suppose to release the parts to fix my plain Jane SR 4 popper at the end of September. He also said Toyota will send a letter when the parts are sent to the dealerships.

Not sure what that would be worth to you, but hey now you know if you were to go that route. Definitely stock it out though, slap those parts on the other taco.
