I was locking the truck and hit the lock three times and I noticed the lights and the autostart cycle. It was a funny moment. I was going to call a priest for an exorcism.
No idea. It certainly functions like the factory version as I understand it (just watched some youtube vids). It was not mentioned in any doc that came with the truck.
I am certainly not unhappy about it! :)

Now that you found the key fob start: is there a way to keep it running when you get in the truck? Mine shuts off when the door is opened. Toyota calls is a safety feature.

Stand by.....dashing out to truck.....nope. That's is annoying.
I guess the theory is that it will be warmed-up (or cooled off) and shut down before I get there. Dunno.

If your truck is running, and the doors are locked. Someone breaks the window, unlocks the door and opens it to drive off... but the car shuts off when they open the door. Now they cant steal your car.

Seems like a good feature to me.

Many have tried, none have succeeded. Basically, the remote start bypasses the need for the key to be present for the truck to start and drive. If you kept it running when you open the door, anybody could open the door and drive off. With old school remote start systems, you still had to insert the key when you got in before you could drive. Since you don't have a traditional key to insert, Toyota had to devise a different way to keep the truck from being stolen. When the door opens and the truck shuts off, it resets the system and will require the key to be present before it will start.

But.....if I have the key fob with me, the truck is smart enough to unlock the door for me so why not smart enough to keep running. I already passed the "I have the key" test. Just sayin'......

At that point yes, if it saw you had the key and didnt shut off that would be great.

That was my logic as well. Other cars I've used with remote start stay running (as long as you have a key). I think this is unique to Toyota.

If the key is not present the engine also shuts off after 10 minutes. I haven't tried it but if you break the window and shift from park without the key I wonder if it would also shut off?

the way GMC works the engine stays running, but you still have to step on brake and push the start button or the transmission doesn't engage. In fact, I think only the engine and Climate Control (still set to whatever was last setting when running) work (not the radio or any other feature of the head unit).
Stepping on brake and pushing start button acts like putting in a physical key and turning it to run position. Everything comes on and transmission engages like it should.
