Up for sale is a stock radio out of a 2015 Tacoma. I bought it used from another member on here for my 2011 JBL Tacoma. Unfortunately it was not compatible with my truck’s connectors so I have no use for it. Nothing wrong with it otherwise, you’ll have to pull a couple clips from your stock unit to use with the bezel and maybe a few screws but otherwise it should drop in if you’re familiar with what connectors you need.

Asking $300 shipped con-US OBO. Located in Mira Loma, CA. I’ll make you a deal if you can pick up locally.

It's possible, just takes some work. I built a custom wire harness to get one working in my 2010.

I have the same setup in my 2011. Definitely possible but takes alittle work with the wiring and making your own harness.

Yeah, for anyone who is savvy with stereo harnesses, this will definitely work. I was looking for something more plug and play.

How do you know if your truck is compatible with the stereo? I have a 15' but I don't know if I will have the same problem you did?

Primarily you just need to make sure the connections are the same. If you pull your radio you can compare to the one you're looking to buy. If the connectors are the same then it should work - the only caveat is that they must also be the same in regard to JBL vs non-JBL.

Just got this one - it's a work in progress.....
I currently have a 2015 non-JBL entune. I've been wanting to upgrade to one with built-in NAV, but I think i've read that you can't use a JBL in a non-JBL truck (somthing to do with the lack of a JBL external amp?)? Does anyone know if this is true? Or can a JBL unit be used in a non-JBL truck as plug-and-play?

I have been wondering about this as well.

I don't care about the JBL, but I wouldnt mind the map feature.

JBL and non-JBL are not compatible. If you think about it logically, it makes a lot of sense... Your non-JBL has an amplifier INSIDE the head unit which powers the speakers. The JBL system has no amp in the headunit and instead the amp is external and mounted in the rear of the cab. If you installed a JBL head unit in your non-JBL truck you would have no amplifier at all and thus no sound. Putting a non-JBL into a JBL truck would give you two amps and wiring that simply doesn't function correctly for the components you're trying to use. People have done both of these swaps but it takes a significant amount of wiring and typically isn't worth the trouble.

As for maps/nav... it's garbage. IMO the stock nav system is completely worthless. Perhaps if we were living in 2000 it would be good but it's 2020 and we're all already living with the best navigation option in our pockets. IMO OEM's need to completely abandon trying their own nav and just rely on mirroring Google or Apple maps from our phones.

gotcha. that's what i was thinking. i basically just want the maps because I often travel/camp in places with no cell phone signal.

I haven't tried it in that scenario yet and that could be useful. But at the same time the lack of satellite imagery for me makes it so I don't think it'd be all that useful when out in the boonies. I could definitely be wrong though.

I've been trying to use "offline" maps on my phone for those situations and have had varied luck - but generally poor luck. I think I may try one of those services like onX Offroad app. I had thought about buying a Garmin or something but for the cost of one of those I could get at least a few years subscription to a service like onX and I wouldn't have to worry about having out of date hardware as I'd get new hardware every few years when I get a new phone.

I'm contemplating just mounting an Ipad to the dash and adding the cellular to it. Best of all worlds.

I have a base model 2012 truck that I had to make custom harnesses for to get the radio (nav/XM/phone) to work.
It's possible but not without some ingenuity.

Will work in a 15 if you have JBL but if you did you likely would already have this HU. I think this was the only JBL HU. any non JBL 14/15 will fit. Technically a 16+ will as well connection wise but would need to craft a way to Mount it
