Thanks! Me too. It was not the budget way to go with the powder coating but I'm glad I went ahead and did it just the way I wanted.

Spend the money the first time - do it the way you want it.

It's cheaper than doing it twice. :p

Man, don't I know that. I could have saved so much time and money with a cohesive plan from the beginning.

Alu-Cab Shadow awning in da house! And my cat in da box. 8" square and 8' long. As with most truck stuff, it looks massive in the living room but I'm sure it'll seem reasonable on the truck.

    Finished opening my awning today.

The end is smashed in. Rivets broken. Seriously, this is why I make my own stuff. I'm one of the few people in the united states where all the busted stuff ends up. There are very few things I order that don't show up damaged. This will be interesting to deal with...

That sucks (obviously) better get the cat out of the box before you repackage it.

Sending this back is going to be a huge pain in the ass. I'm sure it must have happened in shipping so I don't know if OK 4WD will handle that claim or what. That's not damage that you can see on the outside of the box. The tear in the cover, I could see where that lined up with a gouge in the box. Though there were several gouges in the box that looked just as superficial. Not knowing how this was packed, I didn't worry about that (though the UPS driver was long gone by the time I got the box all the way inside anyway). I'm not super concerned about the cover though. I could repair the structure by drilling out what's left of the rivets, bending it back into place and bolting it but I shouldn't have to for $1500. Plus, I imagine any warranty would be gone at that point.

Seriously, this happens to me like 75% of the time I buy stuff. It's maddening.

Oh, here's the small tear in the cover.

    IMG_20200910_132413.jpg
It's about the size of a pencil eraser. Someone hit this hard with a sharp object (or edge of the truck or something) because it also took a decent gouge out of the metal frame underneath

But, I'm going to make lemonade out of these lemons by designing the mount for the awning while I still have one in my possession.

    IMG_20200913_111828.jpg
This will bolt to the top of the aluminum boxes and over the door. Should be a good drip rail as well. Though it will collect a bunch of snow and crap that I'll need to clean out. I don't really see a reasonable way around that. The roof rack cross bars will attach to the top of this mount and I'll have a perpendicular brace at the rear to help support the hinge area. I'm not looking forward to adding all this weight to the top of the camper but I think a nice awning will be worth it.

The solid areas between the cutouts is where the awning will bolt. I'll drill a larger hole in the middle to cut more weight but I'll wait to do that until the mounting holes are drilled.

Anything I get via UPS looks like it was thrown off a cliff into the truck. Haven't had any problems with FedEx. Good luck getting it taken care of.

It does. OK4WD seems to be on it. They also have a few in stock...one of them has my name on it...for now. This seems like it will be handled quickly and easily but I won't get excited until a new one shows up undamaged.

Can't imagine this isn't there first go around with this problem. Wouldn't take much to repackage it for the UPS Olympics.

They had never seen one with a broken frame like mine. But that's a common story in my aftermarket product experience. I get ALL of the "we've never seen that before" issues. I'm a magnet for it.
