How to tell TRD off-road from base model

The off-road model also had color-matched fender flares and front bumper. And a chrome rear bumper.

 

I could be wrong, but the models lower than SR5 were 2WD (not pre-runner) and no flares at all.

 

PreRunner and 4WD are 6 lug.
All the rest are 5 lug.

OP, has at least a PreRunner.

Looks like an SR5 does the tail gate say Sr5? TRD OF 2nd gen has painted flares not black. Is it a 4.0 or 2.7 ? Deff not TRD anything

 

100% certain its a 2.7. Most all 4cyls have those unpainted flares.

 

a: never fully trust a sales-weasel
b: what you can do for reparations is dependent on your states laws and how sensitive the dealer is to social media. so consulting a local lawyer will probably be needed but a letter to the dealed cc'ed to your states AG is not a bad idea

 

I dont think they made a 4 cyl, 4x4, double cab did they? Regular and access cabs only I thought

It is 4x4 V6 at least. Does have cruise control as well. Still not sure what model though. The Toyota vin search just says Tacoma 4x4. I called the sales manager at Toyota and he insists it has a TRD exterior aesthetic trim package, but that it isn’t an actual TRD off-road. He equated it to a grand Cherokee altitude vs Laredo

 

Wheels are aftermarket. (Or are a very limited edition OEM set)

 

There is no such thing as a TRD exterior aesthetic trim package.

I’m not completely sure about the lower trim packages, but there’s no steering wheel radio controls. I wonder if it was a SR and somebody added the cruise control, fog lights, and stickers. We know they definitely added the stickers.

What’s the VIN?

 

There is no such thing. The salesman is uneducated about Toyota’s and thinks that a $4 sticker from eBay means it is a TRD.

 

The wheels are TForce wheels that came on the Texas edition Taco. Unfortunately somebody rattlecanned them black.

 

Looks to be a base SR5.

 

I can only find a T-Force editions with these wheels
