You need to go back to where you bought it because everyone else has a 21 gallom tank and they will GIVE you one because that is what you SHOULD have. They OWE you a correct size... Have them add the extra spring and tailgate too(TSB ) ..tell them even with the small tank you are bottoming out and have a rough ride...Good Luck...Rich [IMG]

Are you in Canada? Are we talking about imperial gallons?

yeah Tacoma's do not come stock with a 14 US gal tank. Not sure about the imperial gallon thing b/c according to my calculations 21 US gallons roughly equals 17.5 Imperial gallons.

yeah, there is no way he should have a 14 gallon tank, even if it is imperial gallons thats too small. You DEFINATELY need to confirm your tank size and if its not 21 gallons, then you need to take it up to the dealer and raise hell

I have a 2006 Access cab with the V6 and the best mileage I've gotten over a period of 20k is 24mpg. I can get this by keeping my rpm's less then 2000 as much as possible. Recently I hooked up a 3000 pound travel trailer and was able to still do 20mpg, this however will vary depending on headwind, hills etc. and has been as low as 10mpg. Overall i'm happy having driven a 1992 Ford F250 with a 5.0 302 engine, without a tow vehicle I used to get at best 15mpg, then with a 6000 pound trailer it used to drop to 8-10mpg. I added a Undercover bed cover which I could not be more happy with, no difference in mpg after 10k with the cover. It does make for a secure trunk area. Biggest tip I can suggest is to watch your RPM and keep them below 2000. My truck is an AUTO trans by the way.

As long as I don't go over 2000 RPM my mileage is always above 22mpg. This does not seem to be a problem even going up hills. My suggestion is if you want to raise your MPG stay under 2000.

being a truck person since getting a licence I am alway amused at the fuel economy question..Prior to the 08 #s on the window sticker, on any vehicle one might look at, I recomend looking at the very small reported to #s that your eyes are not drawn to due to the very large lab test #s...I guess after driving big 3 half tons for almost 20 years the tacoma gets excelent millege to me...The power to weight ratio is always impresive each time I drive..4.10 and a six speed its a hot rod with a big trunk...

looks like the V6's vary widely...my 06 consistently gets 17 around town (30k on the ODO)...i keep waiting for it to get better  i keep the RPMs at 2500 typically...maybe that's the problem? seems sluggish to me under 2k

I have a 2008 as well and I just recorded 20.3 mpg which includes highway and city commuting. Pretty damn good if you ask me.

I have a 2007 V-6 6-spd 4x4 access cab with about 850 miles. My first 2 tankfulls only gave me about 15 mpg combined. My third tankfull gave me 16mpg. I'm on my fourth tank now. Hopefully it is starting to go up.

i just got my 08 dblcab lb sport tacoma last month and the first tank i got 16 but i was driving in 4 the whole time. second tank got better around 18 and the next six were 9 but i was towing up hills alot. the manual says to not tow before 500 miles and to try not to rev it at high rpms and vary your speed i think. I did get 19 but seem to ave around 18. thats non highway. havent did much of that yet to check it. by the way these trucks tow great. 3 quads, 1000lb trailer, 3 guys and all our gear to west virginia from pa did great. only 9mpg but there were alot of long hills. but it still could go 90 up any of em. love this truck so far.

not 4x4 .. Im retarded and for some reason thought the 4 and the D were together cause im used to 4 being the highest gear for an automatic and just assumed when it said it had 5 gears they were just inclucing reverse.
