hello all, we have a 2018 tacoma trd sport with 43 k miles no mods other than a k&n filter we live in so cal.where it has been hot.
While in a drive thru my wife noticed the temp slowly increasing. Never getting in the red or getting any type of alert.she shut off the ac and the temp dropped.
Took it to our long time service shop did a full diagnostic work up ,everything checked out.
Does any one know of a tsb or any thoughts ?
    Thanks in advance

Pretty much the same happens on my 2020 v6. It runs slightly on the hotter side according to the temp gauge, and when i run the ac on a very hot day the temp gauge needle moves slightly hotter, but never into the red zone. My 01 tundra 4.7 didn't do this, it always registered on the cooler side of the gauge except when towing up a steep grade....didn't matter if the ac was on or not. I'm thinking its normal for this truck.

A lot of these 3.5's overheating. As these motors age this could potentially be a problem for long term reliability. I wonder if these increased heat occurrences reduce the life of head gaskets and such.

17 Tacoma with over 100k... Never had an overheating issue... If its balls hot and there isnt a lot of airflow (i.e. you're crawling) hitting the front, you should probably not use the AC... AC creates a lot of heat by putting a load on the motor, but more importantly, the AC condensor gets way hot and requires airflow to cool down.... The truck should not overheat outside of asking too much from your AC in extreme heat coupled with low speeds.

I wouldnt say alot of them are overheating. Ive seen a few threads out of the millions of trucks sold. Dont let tacoma world be your view of these trucks, most people here put the truck into situations it was not really designed for.

I often wonder what percentage of Tacoma owners are also hypochondriacs.

It wasn’t overheating, just increasing while idling in summer, in a drive through. Now it’s apparently it’s a systemic problem to all 3.5s.

I apologize OP, but this is basic automotive in my mind. If it’s not in alarm, don’t be alarmed. The cooling system is doing it’s job.
