Special ordered Tacoma made in Mexico?

My SR5 is a Texan.

 

I ordered a a 2021 SR access cab utility pkg 4cyl 6spd manual with a manual FJ T-case, a rear e locker A-trac LED headlamps TRD Pro Fox suspension 16" TRD gunmetal beadlocks in Classic Silver Metalic to be built in Aichi Japan.

 

Everyone keeps saying CUSTOM ordered. The op said special order. TRUE you CANNOT custom order a Tacoma. YES you CAN special order a Tacoma!! I wanted black interior in my Tacoma. Not one to be found when I was ready. I built my truck with the sales manager on his computer picking model, color, interior color, options that were offered for the model I wanted. Put down $500. Was told it could take up to 2 months to be built and delivered. Just about a month and a half I got confirmation it was built and delivered. So NO you cannot custom add options that are not offered. NO you can't pick a color that's not offered. But YES you can build a vehicle with all options offered and colors you want and if they can't locate they will order if you want. You just have to wait the time to get it.

 

I was just reading some kind of press outlet for the 2021 Tacoma and it bragged about the large number of configurations, something like 51 llRC. There is SR, SR5, Sport, Off Road, Trail Edition, Nightshade, Pro, Access Cabs, Double Cabs, 4x2, 4x4, Long Beds, Short Beds, 4 Cylinder, 6 Cylinder, Manual and Automatic, 3 different Leather Interiors, etc.

 

Reserva De los Gonzales is one of my favorite for like everyday drinking since it’s good but also on the lower end price wise

 

Man, it will take you that long, lol. Done over 100k in less then 5 years, lol.

 

To many here on TW I've got a high priced OR with a factory skewp!

Toyota doesn't do custom order. IDK why this is continuously debated here. It definitely has to do with Kaizen and quality, etc. Jeep allows you to custom order. Maybe if they didn't their quality would be better.

I often wonder when a tacoma needs to be ordered, are the chances for a better quality build better? This was the first vehicle i did an order on, and so far its been a good one. My brother ordered a trans am back in the day...its built with above average quality from what i've seen over the years. As far as mexico...knowing what i've gone through in the past with manufacturing done in mexico, i'd decline on anything that costly made there. I have my reservations how the overall quality will be on future tacoma's.

 

Honestly I think it's all semantics and the fact that everyone interprets the English language differently. To be precise and anal, you really cannot "special" order a Tacoma. There is nothing special about that Tacoma, every Tacoma assembled or planning to be assembled is already allocated. To make everyone feel warm and fuzzy though on this TW Friday, we'll call it an order allocation; the dealer is locating inventory (assembled or not), then placing an order to allocate it to a potential buyer, if possible. It is neither custom, nor special, but it is a win-win as the dealership can sell a vehicle without it being on the lot and the person buying it feels like they have something special.

I feel like this is half true, if you wanted something like the tonneau cover it has to be added at the factory. So if the allocated truck is similar but is missing that then it would be added.

 

I thought those items were port/dealer installed...not from the factory. At least that's how it is with other brands, I could be wrong.

 

Oem tonneau is done at factory.

I just bought a '20 TRD Off Road. I read that if your VIN starts with one number (i believe "3") then it was built in SA, if it starts with ("5" i believe) it was HECHO EN MEXICO! Mine was a Texas model Hope this helps

 

You chose a very particular set of options and reserved the next truck scheduled to be built with those options. If you never existed, that truck would have been built anyways, shipped to a dealer, and purchased by someone else.

 

Does a dealer/distributor have the ability to request a tonneau to be added a truck that isn't assembled yet? If so, then technically that would make it a special order.

 

I’ve just custom ordered my 2021 (had to special order it because they don’t have any available yet) When I’m done with my custom ordered Limited edition TRD Off Road Bro Sport I’m going to sell it at Barrett Jackson and make 3 times what I paid for it...
