Ebay bumper... I know, I know, but hear me out its not the same one as others posted

need a new rear bumper, truck i bought has a good dent in TRD sport MGM bumper...

Wife likes this one but I kinda like the hooke one too thoughts?

no serious off road, just alot of camping and logging roads PS I know the u bolts will be useless but I have other options for emergency if needed.

 

I was expecting the price to be $199.

 

lol if it makes it better Amazon has it for 429... might want to mention I am from canada so a real bumper is expensive as hell to ship here, at least if I have it shipped to the boarder when all this covid stuff calms down i can just go get it at my property near Mt Baker.

It’s worth a shot. I’d probably run it if I need a new bumper.
If you plan to use the D-Ring Shackles, I’d inspect the fasteners they are providing for installation.
I would get the strongest available. You can “usually” tell the grade by the bolt head marking.

Other than that, looks good to me.

 

I'm quite sure that is the same China manufacturer of Hooke Road rear bumpers. It's the same design. That being said, it would be an upgrade to the oem but dont expect the D shackles to hold up to any recovery situation. I would recommend buying the tow hitch d-ring shackle attachment for recovery.

 

Even if they use four grade 8 bolts it could be completely cosmetic if the bumper itself isn't built well, reinforced by design or at least material quality and thickness.

That's from the Interwebz. I don't know the original source or story. It was posted in a discussion regarding recovery points (or rather lack of them) on vehicles. Something like that was is just a nice place to hang shackles but not a recovery point.

You have to look behind the surface and see how the bumper is built, the quality of the fabrication, to know if the recovery point is safe or not. In this case the clevis appears to be welded with two beads even but the base material is just too thin and there's no reinforcement.

With a bolt-on clevis you have to be even more concerned since the force is concentrated on the bolts, so even smaller area. So there needs to be some beef to the location, a backing plate, to spread it.

 

cool, will make sure to check that out, I was thinking of just getting the receiver recovery shackle in case I actually needed it like another member mentioned above.

Just starting to creep in, I am from Vancouver but living in Nanaimo right now on Vancouver island, went to the dog beach early this morning and you could see the smoke over the water near vancouver.

 

I have a friend in Tofino that just said she’s starting to see it come in. The plume off the west coast looks like something from a movie

The angles of the bumper surfaces are different in all the pictures. To me all those pictures look photoshopped. I would try to somehow get a picture of the inside to see how the recovery points and mounting points are done. I think you can do better for around $500.

 

I think its this bumper - Oedro Front Bumper, angles match up.

Good bumpers have the frame mounting plate stick through the bumper to make the recovery point on the outside, that way when you pull all the force goes to the frame. When you wend the recovery point just to the surface of the bumper it's more likely to fail.

 

for around $500 what is in this price range? I have looked at a bunch and they are all 800 + and I kinda wanted to keep the standard bumper look and not have to relocate too much.

remember canadian dollar is like 35% lower than USD plus shipping is pretty much impossible to get here especially something that big.

 

It's true that bumpers can be pricey. When I bent up my original bumper I didn't want to spend a lot and didn't want high clearance but I did want decent recovery points. Ended up with an All-Pro basic bumper. And you're 100% correct, it was US$800 before shipping, powdercoat and the hitch.

Like @MadRussian says, can't be much more simple than just passing the bumper's 3/16" mounting plate through a slot in the face. If this fails it'll be most likely because the frame of the truck ripped apart.

I like the bumper but the hitch arrangement stinks. I wish it would just run the factory hitch.

 

The infamous ebay bumper has both front and rear (LINK). The rear one is also a knock off of the Al-Pro, basically same as what @DaveInDenver got so at least its a knock off of a decent design. I believe it mounts in place of the trailer hitch so you would need to get a separate hitch assembly that works with the bumper.
So I see your point - if you want to keep the mounting more or less stock, then you're limited. But keep in mind that what ever you get may not be very strong.
You other option is to get a DIY bumper welding kit, but that means you have to be able to get it welded together.

 

Holy cow, that eBay looks like an exact copy of the All-Pro. I hate copycats and wonder about quality of material and workmanship, but you very well might be getting a decent value for $519 shipped and finished.

I almost wonder if All-Pro is sourcing their bumpers from whatever shop is actually making those. It's not that simple of a design that it seems worthwhile to copy all the extra cutting and bending.
