Core-Shifter for 3rd Gen V6

He suffers for his shifters.

It’s the white engraved with plain sides that I ordered with the shifter. I’ve always been partial to a white shifter ball.

And this shifter ROCKS!

 

NICE! What was the tough part(s)?

 

The only tough part was the two front bolts. I was able to get a 1/4” drive socket and swivel joint on the heads and pushed hard against the sheet metal to keep the socket square. They were pretty tight.
I WAS going to lock-tight them when reinstalling but since you need to spin them a long way with your finger tips I decided against it. I WAS able to torque them to spec though.

The vent tube wasn’t too bad either. The fitting is a 90 degree brass elbow that you can remove from the shifter, push the tube on the fitting, and then push the fitting back into the rubber grommet on the shifter.

 

Hoping these are in stock again soon. I really want to pick one up.

 

Took more than a month to get up here in Canada (ordered at the beginning of August) but it's finally here and install is done.

Very fun to drive, barely have to move my arm to shift!

A note about the whine/vibration, it is very noticeable in 5th and 6th gear but if anyone is wondering, the rubber isolator kit does work:

interestingly, my Core's noise was very high in the beginning and now it is slight and often none at all. and it never gets loud anymore like before. no loss of firmness or definition at all. win-win.

 

Yup, 5th & 6th are the worse.
Can you feel a difference in the shifter? I would think it wouldn't be feel as solid?

 

It's not as solid but I still feel the gears spinning when I keep my hand on the shifter.

But compared to the very loose stock shifter it's perfect for me.

 

So I got my Core while I was away on vacation and started installing it this afternoon. It was a pain in the ass to get the URD one back out since I put a thin layer of RTV on the mating surfaces.

Anyway, shifter is in and I am trying to figure out how the hell to tighten the front two screws. It seems there is even less access than the URD.

 

Yeah the 2 front bolts are hard to get to, I replaced them with allen head bolts so I can remove the rubber gromet (top left in the picture) and insert allen wrench with a ball tip.

 

Lol, already did that with the button heads and knocking out the rubber grommets. Too much angle to the dangle for the ball heads I have. I also can't get one of them run down finger tight due to some crap in the threads I think. I even tried the reach-around from underneath. I got one side, but the other is just too tight.

I haven't looked at it yet, but can the trans mount be unbolted to lower the whole thing down a bit for some clearance?

 

I'm gonna try a torque adapter when I install mine. ...May be too tight, even for that.

 

Regular bolts and a crows-foot was going to be my try tomorrow. My flex head 13mm may work still, but there's not much swing in there. I was able to use it for the URD, but the base of the CORE is quite a bit larger.
