Should a couple of those to the rear bumper to help push the FJ along when doing some water crosses too.

Super happy with my K&N 63. had it on a 2nd gen and a 3rd gen now. More power and better gas. I DGAF what the conspiracy theoriests/non-engineers say.

The one it came with. It’s a V6 Japanese utility truck using almost the same intake as 5.7L Tundras. Unless you just want more noise, in which case the TRD intake has larger resonator and lets the engine sound out more. Most K&N intakes for this truck suck in more hot air from the engine bay than the stock one. Which is already technically a CAI.

If you want more noise and maybe a slightly better throttle response, get intake flow accelerator and HPS 57-1600 intake tube.

Everything else will be a waste of money, the stock airbox is the same as 5.7 tundra.

K&N was amazing on my 4.0 ranger. Made a huuge difference. IMO the stock airbox on the taco is adequate, i just dont like that stock intake tube with the huge ass resonator that takes half of the engine bay.

No, you don’t. At any rate, what even makes you say that? How did you measure for it??

I did K and N. Noticed better mpg, better sound after 3500 rpm, and a minor increase in power. It was a present and cost me 0$. If I was using my money I would change the filter and the tube only.

OP, there are a few here commenting to defend their (questionable) “investments”. Their associated butt dyno statements are useless because they’re just that “butt dynos”. Waaaaa I spent money and time; therefore, it has to do something. Lol!!

I’d you want it for looks and sound that’s fine but that’s basically all you’ll get, just know that.

If you get one, at least look for one with a conical filter and not some lame OEM type plenum filter. Most of the latter only flow better because they stuck at filtering.

I am not disputing that some may in fact flow better than stock BUT that still won’t help your performance AT ALL. The motor doesn’t pull enough air (unless you supercharge or turbo it) to utilize the possibilities of higher flow. 5.7L tundra (an air pump nearly double the size of yours) uses the same intake. That should tell ya all you need to know

Yeah I do, going from WOT to completely shut throttle I've seen my gauge hit positive intake manifold pressure, albeit only slightly into the +in/hg it's measurable and repeatable and scales appropriately with vehicle speed.

    What is "Ram air"?

A ram-air intake is any intake design which uses the dynamic air pressure created by vehicle motion to increase the static air pressure inside of the intake manifold on an internal combustion engine.

That's litterally how a snorkel works as it's an opening into the intake facing forward as the vehicle drives, it has a bell end scoop and is more than capable of bringing in more air than the engine can consume at idle thus it creates the measurable over pressure (ram air) in the intake manifold.

How was it measured? By reading the vacuum and pressure reported by the intake sensors through an OBDII scanner and confirming that with an old school glycerin-filled vacuum gauge.

    How else?

The MPG increase was roughly .5mpg how was that measured? By my meticulously recording of each tank's MPG and comparing to the previous averages.

I'm not claiming *IT'S HITTING BOOST MAN* and you may have noticed I also said I didn't notice an increase in power from it, only economy.

So go take your sticks of disbelief and need to poke bull shit and play in someone else's back yard.
