Nothing on a vehicle is an “investment” all will depreciate, usually more with non OEM parts. If it makes you happy, just do it! Link I put up, says it all in more detail than I have time to invest. Mine sounds good with the stock pro exhaust. Sure looks purdy too! Your truck, YOLO! More TRD stuff!

    It's a secret
Slap on a 20vMax Brushless DeWalt leafblower with a 2" dia. extension hose to a "tee" Fernco adapter that is attached to the air filter box in the engine bay...bore out a hole through the glove box for that extension hose access into the engine bay... Now, when you want a boost in power just switch on that leafblower and feel the instant ~95HP gains with that forced induction!

I love these intake debate posts. “Snake oil” “butt dyno” “factory knows best” “stock intake filter can flow more cfm than the engine can use”....

Hardly any of these arguments are anything other than personal opinion based on not much. And almost never on factual data.

At the end of the day factory intake systems are made for three things:
    1) low cost
    2) ease of installation on assembly line
    3) sound deadening

After that you will be lucky if a company actually took the time to worry about flow characteristics or for trucks debris load. Although sometimes they do. Ford and Isuzu/GM (I’m sure others do to) have a deal with Donaldson to make non stock issues Intakes that can hold pounds of dirt and dust and still perform. And are usually options for fleet vehicle sales.

but back to the point. In pre Direct injection days, volume of air was king... followed by intake charge temp and all of that with keeping the maf scaled properly etc

Now in the DI days, it’s velocity velocity velocity and keeping the maf scaled properly.

the camaro v6 guys have done a good job and dyno pre and post everything. And the results are worthy of a look. Even though it’s not a Toyo motor.

black bear tuning or what ever their name is did two huge intake shoot outs on the gm v8 motors. One port injection and then a DI motor. Quite a few intakes, no tuning. The noted pre and post dyno numbers and then any pertinent safety concerns. And the biggest was some intakes had the maf scale so far off the engine was a ticking time bomb... Subaru wrx and sti come to mind with the aem smog legal intake as does the camaro lfx factory performance intake with out the tune.

anyways some of the intakes were showing 30+ whp... no tune. This is on a 300 whp engine. So 10% whp gain is nothing to sneeze at.

Some intakes lost a couple ponies, some gained minimal. If I could look at all lined up my Cracker Jack degree in hydro dynamics could tell me why... but...

so there can be power gained from an intake, but I wouldn’t touch one with out a tune or someone making sure the tune is keeping the engine happy.

problem is, most vehicle communities won’t do a parts shoot out. So it’s hard to find out what works and what doesn’t.

The stock airbox is the same size as the tundras intake, so IMHO no reason to fuck with it. Everything else, sure why not :D

Sure. Do tell. I listed references to actual testing. And specifics to what’s and why’s.
I’m curious, why do you feel it’s nonsense?

There have been tons of test done with CAIs, non provide power. You cite one test where it provided 10% uplift while saying there are also test with no improvement or loss of power. It is a testing error more than anything. If not why not everyone getting that 10% uplift, that literally makes zero sense.

All modern air boxes provide more air than the engine can actually use. Plus if a 500$ upgrade provided 10% power uplift, it would be standard on every car.

I said there were intakes that gained and intakes that didn’t. Including some that lost.

I provided 2 tests not including the lgx and lfx lists.... those lists are pre and posts with Cai and some kits show consistent gains on different owners...
And some kits show no gains consistent with different owners.

do you really think that no “cai” result in increase in power?

and that if they did the oem would put it on their cars? The intake tracts on oem set ups are designed for ease of manufacturing and assembly to a price point and lack of noise while passing a leak test.
